I ended up getting a new 629-6 v-comp.. It seems very well made... The rubber Hogue grips feel cheap though. I'm thinking of a nice set of woodies, or a more solid set of rubber. I've never seen a set of pachs that fit my hand well, so we can probably skip those.

I'm not looking for framable display grips, unless they will hold up to hunting and regular range use. This ones going to be a shooter. Thoughts? Pictures encouraged... Thanks!

If you want a set of nice, comfortable wood stocks for your 629 that won't break the bank, you should look at some of Kim Ahrends grips. They have a seller on eBay named gripseller that usually has a decent assortment of N frame Ahrends grips. I have a set of his round to square butt conversion Tactical grips on my 629-3 Classic and love them.

Looking at gripseller's store on eBay, the N frame selection is pretty slim right now, with only 4 sets of grips to fit a round butt N frame. They generally sell in the $70-90 range. Here is a link to gripseller's eBay store for you to look at the (sparse) selection available right now. <<<LINK>>>

+1 for the Ahrends.....my Retro Combats fit/look great, fills my hands which offers great control and, as muddoktor so aptly pointed out, doesn't break the bank.....

You might want to look into the Hogue Tamer grips. They're made to take on 500 mag loads. Should be more than enough for 44 mag.

Ahrend's.....Kim knows how they should fit the human hand .
Retro Target or Retro Combats , the model 58 in my avatar has the combats. Order exactly what you want in the exotic wood of your choice, nothing like a custom set of grips made for your wants/needs.
Mine are in the now unobtainable cocobolo...but he has many other wood options.
Do Not Buy Laminate....that's a polite word for PLYWOOD and it's ugly.

Great suggestions. Mine came with the Hogue Tamers, but they just don't do it for me. They feel like they were and afterthought. It could be me though as I've never shot a full sized S&W with anything other than wood. I had wood grips on my old model 66 service revolver back in the day before we switched to SA's. I'm just comfortable with them.

Those Ahrends look ergonomic beautiful. I will look more into those.

Awesome. Thanks for the suggestion... Completely by chance, I think I just snagged the last set of coco bolo ones not mounted to a 629. Those things are beautiful... A least they were in the catalog pic. Should have them by Friday!!

If you really want to dress it up I'd put a set of Culinas on it. They look like factory grips but with nicer wood. You can get them with or without the medallions in several exotic woods and various configurations.

Hogues go straight into the junk box.
My RB N-frames get shot a lot.
I have found the S&W factory 629 grip to be the best for comfort.

Of course, I have nice wood for show..

Still not available but I'm holding hope for Altamont's grips.

They are "coke bottle" conversion grips.

Look quite nice although I have no doubt some purists here will disagree with me.

Nice scope mount. That's going to be my next project when the bank account recovers. I want to put a nice red-dot on it for hunting season. You guys know how it is with 50+ year old eyes...

If you don't mind paying the extra price for them, I'll second the Culina stocks. They aren't cheap, but they are extremely high quality. I have 2 pair already and 1 more on order with them for when John makes another run of stocks.

The first set on the pistol here are some Signature Plus grade target presentation square butt Culina stocks in Cocobolo wood. They are installed on my nickel 4" 27-2.




The next pair are some Signature Plus grade target presentation square butt Culina stocks in English Walnut. I don't have pics of them installed on a pistol, but here's 3 pics of them by themselves for you to look at:






The Cocobolo grips cost around $210 and the Walnut grips were around $200, to give you a price range for this level of grips from Culina, LLC. They also make them in lesser grades for lower prices too. And both John (Kurac) and Jennifer (Gripmaker's Wife) are members that actively participate on these forums.

New shoes are on. LOVE the Ahrends. Thanks for the advice. Can't wait to try these out.
