The normal s/n range for that prefix is....

October to December 1985.

I can't recall EVER seeing a M28-3, so they were definitely not common. You gotta post pics. You just gotta.

28-3 models are scarcer than the 28-2, being manufactured for a relatively short time. When I picked up my six inch 28-3 some months back, I did some internet research and a few popped up with asking prices lower than comparable 28-2 models. Lately, darn few have hit the online market. Guess at one time they were the Rodney Dangerfield of the Highway Patrolman line...they got no respect!

A perfect example that scarcity alone does not automatically confer added value.

Nice job. Rarely come across a -3.

Here's a -3 that still has the N prefix and another with the three-letter prefix.

My guess is that in most folk's eyes a Highway Patrolman is a Highway Patrolman and there's a bazillion of them out there. Unless it's one of the ultra rare factory nickeled 28s it's going to take a lot to get a rise out of most people.

Default I saw

About a year ago I saw a 28-3 (4 in. BBL) in a pawn shop. The bluing was nearly perfect and I believe the correct stocks. A lot nicer finish than either of my other ones. IIRC priced at $750.00.
I have a 28-2 with a 4 in. bbl, and one with a 6 in.
Since this -3 wasn't pinned/recessed, I passed w/o finding out what a real price out the door was.
Within a short time I went back for another look and it was sold.
Once again, old the adage, shoulda bought it when I saw it. (sigh)

IIRC 28-3 was 81/82 which overlapped the introduction of the 686/681 family.......... given a choice most chose a 68x over a 28

I have AJK 3578, bought new in 1988, two years after production ended. 6" Target stocks. My absolute favorite revolver.

Generally, the Model 28's that I have seen sell for less than other comparable full size 357's of the same barrel length. Having said that, I am keeping mine.
