Default Will I be able to find my revolver?

I bought my 586 on June 13, 1988 at Edelman's of NJ and regrettable sold it on March 15, 2002 to Ray's Sport Shop in North Plainfield. I would absolutely love to try and find it but Rays is out of business. Is there a way to track it by its serial number? Maybe someone on here knows what Rays did with their inventory? They probably resold it pretty quickly!

Sorry but people will be veryyyy slow to give out people's gun sale/ownership info. Put yourself in their shoe's for a moment, someone just told people you have guns and your name and or contact info. Good way to get sued or put out of business. I also sold a gun (ok many) that I regret. Best advice I could give is put wtb with as much info about the gun on local armslist etc.

Just curious why it would have to be the exact same revolver? I'm sure you can find a nice 586 out there maybe not the same ser# but still the same type of revolver.

Welcome from a fellow Jersey inmate.
I bought a lot of guns at Ray's over the years.
I miss them.
I bought a new 6" and a used 4" 586 from them but that was before 2002.
I doubt nothing short of a court order will get them to show you their records, wherever they are now.

There is no national database of firearms owned by serial number.....yet. (That would be the first step to future confiscation and so far is illegal and unconstitutional). The BATFE isn't supposed to keep or use records in that way. NICS background check info isn't supposed to be kept either. While I can't say whether or not the government follows the law, there is no way for an individual to search to see who previously bought or sold a firearm. Finding your gun would be harder than a needle in a haystack. I suggest you forget what your serial number was and look for an identical model replacement.

When I surrendered my 01 FFL in 1995, I sent the 4473's along with the bound book to the ATF in Falling Waters WV. They have admitted to computerizing tens of million of the forms. I'm sure they won't help you. Joe

You can still find new in box examples of 100 year old guns. I'm sure it won't be too hard to replace a 586.

The chance of finding that exact one is slim to none and to could be a rusty, beat up, boat gun even if you manage to find it.

Are you on the New Jersey Gun Forums site?

Feel free to post the serial number of the gun you are looking for here. Not much of a chance you'll get a response, but you never know.

I sold the first revolver I ever bought 7 years ago. I regret it to this day.... a 6" 686 purchased in 1983. BUT..... I recently replaced it with a beautiful 6" 686-3 with the adjustable front sight. I can sleep again. And the earth is still spinning on its axis.
