629-1 4" with Ported Barrel
A LGS just got this in. I have not seen a 629 with a ported barrel before. Serial No. makes it a 1987 vintage.
Is the porting from the factory or done by a 3rd party?

That porting looks like it was done at Mag-Na-Port.

I looked at the Mag-na-port site and it does look like it might be their work.

The lock up seems good. It is dirty. I am always surprised how few people clean the guns before they sell them to enhance their value.

Some were Magnaported by certain large distributors such as this one from RSR Wholesalers in 1983. Other " improvements " are a polished trigger and Combat stocks.

That makes me wonder if they are lazy, or trying to hide something. I've experienced both.

Probably lazy. The LGS owner is a gunsmith. I have had him do somethings on some guns of mine. So I would feel confident that the gun was OK.

Nice looking magnum at a great price, but your right, it is filthy. I also agree that the porting looks like it was done by Magna port. I have a 5" that was ported by them that looks very similar. Good to see some other Central New Yorkers on here. I'm about an hour and a half east of You.
