Battle of Kframe 3" 13-3 RB vs 65 RB
Throw out the finish/color/prone to rusting/etc
Based on metallurgy and overall fit, durability
Does one stand out ?
I want to put a Kframe 3" RB back in my stable.
Or if you have both ... which do you prefer?
Thanks in advance

Throw that out and I don't see any difference between them.

I think it mostly comes down to personal preference unless you are just going to neglect the thing.

Wouldn't matter. If you want to find ultimate durability you'd need a large cross section of both and run them all to death. Even then you'd probably find both are about the same

I love both. I prefer Blue, no, Stainless. Oh heck, get one of each, you won't be disappointed.

Get whichever one is the lower price depending on condition. If both are the same condition/grips/accessories and one is less money, get that one. You will find no other discernible difference.
I like blue, so mine is blue. Cost for me, at the time, was the same.

Durability, maybe find a Speed Six or GP100 3". Not that Smiths aren't durable, but it's often about perception.

I believe I'd consider how I was going to use it. If it will travel with me in my truck everyday or a glove box or console I'd opt for SS. If it's in the safe except for hours that I'm shooting it I'd opt for the RB. And that's just because I like blue revolvers.

Buy the first one that you see, 3" K frames don't come around every day

I like them both. The only difference being that the blued one has sights that are easier to see. Stainless is great but needs blacks sights.

These days I look a lot at fit.
My old PPC model 10 and 15, the yoke to frame fit is tight.
My two 686s, the yoke fit does not seem to have the same tightness.
It just got me thinking that a blued Model 13 might be tighter than a STS 65.
or hell, I could be looking at something that does not need to be looked at.
I recall my Model 65 3" was very smoooooth action and a good shooter. my 13-3 3" was not as smooth.

My 3" K frame in 9mm ...
I find the 3" K frame to be the best pointing handgun I have. While heavy compared to my other carry guns, I find the weight of the 547 to be manageable for EDC and great for sustained accurate fire.
Like others here I prefer blued or matte black for carry. Stainless is a bit too flashy for me to carry and Nickel guns ( I don't and won't own any) are for BBQs

IMO, a 3" K frame is much about concealed carry. For me, and where I live, that means sweat. Lots of it for much of the year.
So, SS is just the logical conclusion.

Based on the your stated parameters (and assuming you're excluding the PC13 and 65 Lady Smith), there is zero meaningful difference.

Any reason you want the 65 over the 66 other than price? (I'm in the same boat you are right now)?

They both sound great for revolver fans but the prices being asked for them these days make me turn to other things in the safe.

I prefer the simplicity of just a rear notch cut into the frame as opposed to a standard adjustable rear.
Old Corp just said something that got me thinking.
I live in a very humid environment and going outside for just a few minutes and I will start sweating. I think in south Texas, the model 65 will make more sense.
I have a very clean 4" Model 66-1 that has been sleeping in a box for yearssss. I prefer the Lframe for revolver games. This might have to go to cover the expenses for a 3" Kframe.
While I prefer blue steel these days, if I get a model 13, better have a silicone cloth handy. I hate rust.
Thanks for the info

Did you decide which dash version on the 65 you'll be looking for?

This guy is nice. It's a -5 but very clean with factory wood. Nice
Sold: S&W 65-5 3", Local FTF SE MI

I have a 13-3 and a 65-5 LS. The 65 has a nicer trigger than the 13, along with the shrouded ejector rod. That being said I'd probably pick the 13-3 if I could only keep one. I'm partial to blued guns. Fortunately I don't have to choose. The 65-3 is on my list to buy, so that I'll have the exact stainless twin to my 13-3.

Acquired this 3" 13-2 on GB a few years ago. Nelson Ford smoothed the trigger and gave it a spa treatment. It fits nicely in my camping and fishing kit - not too big and not too small in both size and caliber.

I'm lucky enough to own a Model 13-3, a Model 65-3, and a Model 64-3 all with 3.0 inch long barrels. No, I didn't plan it this way, I just got lucky enough to find 3.0 inch barreled K-frames, and this is what came my way. If forced to pick, I'd have to choose the Model 65-3 as my favorite, but it's a close tie. The blued finish on the Model 13-3 is to die for.
Regards,
Dave

The 65-5 Lady Smith has a shrouded ejector rod which just looks nicer IMO ,
Not to add fuel to the fire but there is another contender for best fixed site 3" K frame in the Model 547.

I currently have three 3" S&W L /K frames, I found all of them when I wasn't looking.
A M64-3 ex police
A nickel M13-3
And my favorite, a 686 CS1
I guess that I should not look for a blued one next.

now this guy interests me. I did not know a .38 3" RB exists. WOW
probably a 65-3 might be easier to find! HA
I have huge hands and will need a T grip adapter.
Did that T grip adapter company ever come back to business? (WTH is the name?)

I do like the 3" K-Frame S&W round butt revolvers more than any other K-Frame. Blue or stainless works for me.
Uummm... ok there are the K-22s...

My 65-3 has red nail polish over a white base on the front sight ramp, and the rear notch is painted with flat black model paint (applied with a sharpened toothpick - one big drop spread around on all the surfaces you might see while aiming is all it takes.)
This takes 10 minutes of work, plus surface cleaning (alcohol on a Q-Tip) and drying time. All of my guns with stainless sights get this treatment. Makes all the difference in being able to see the sights under most lighting conditions.
