986 PC 2.5" 9mm Feedback?
Thinking hard about picking up the 986 PC 2.5" 9mm. I've got tons of 9mm & don't want to start buying different ammo. Now that this revolver has been out for a while- what's the consensus on function, reliability, issues, etc? There doesn't seem to be a ton of info out there on this gun at all. I've held the 929 & 986 larger 9mm models but I'm wanting something that is a bit more concealable. Unfortunately there is no way to actually try all theee of these guns out anywhere. Any thoughts/opinions of owners would be appreciated.

I received one this past Christmas as a gift .....to myself. I like the 9mm revolver and this one is great. Taking to the range tomorrow actually. Here it is with the rest of the 9mm family.

Cool! My biggest concern was the bullet jumping the crimp talk you hear with 9mm revolvers. Have you had any issues at all? I use Speer Lawman 124g and Speer GD exclusively in my 9mm. I know the moonclip can be a pain as well- but I can deal with that. Any other "issues" to report?

None of those problems. My biggest problem is not enough range time!
I don't mind the moon clips at all especially if you have a proper tool. I have the 'Moon Clip Tool' from revolver supply with 2 arbors - one for 9mm and 1 for my .45's and I have the BMT also for the .45's.

3" 547 9mm ...
Looking for commonality of ammo with my 9mm semi-autos the 547 fits the bill quite well. I don't care for moon clips and the 547 eliminates that need.
The balance of the weapon makes it a great instinctive shooter, it comes up into sight alignment better than any other handgun I have.
I'm working this fine revolver into my EDC as my primary weapon. First to fight, but with a semi-auto as backup for a NY reload should things go that far.
My backup 9mm magazine can be used for reloads but I generally carry at least one stripper clip for the 547.
Combat accuracy in double action shooting is superior to most if not all of my bottom feeders. It's heavy compared to my J frames, weighing in about as heavy as my 915 fully loaded with 17+1
Carrying both is "going heavy" but manageable with good holsters. The 547 is carried AISW and the 915 in the small of my back sort of "Mexican Carry" but very concealable with the right clothing:

Very nice collection, g-dad! The 2" 940 is on my search list as well. I'm going to get a 986 PC 2.5" on the way...
I see you're in somewhat close to me in NC. Did you buy your local?

The 547 seems like the perfect 9mm revolver. I'd be all over it had I not just went to GB and saw the price of trying to buy one! Unless someone knows where to pick one up cheaper I guess I have to find another solution.

I doubt if there are any "cheap" 547's out there. I paid $1600 for mine and was prepared to go $2k.

Is the DA trigger on the 986 in really dreamy?
I watched a TV show and they had 3 new S&Ws.
One of them was the 986 PC, but they only shot it
single action.
I doubt if Ruger will be bringing back the Speed Six, or we will
see a GP-100 in 9mm soon.
Those 986 PCs are just gorgeous, if not to much more than say the
new Ruger .44 specials.
I'm selling my LCR .357 and Blackhawk .357/9mm (locally) to move up to a Ruger SA in .45 Colt, but also own a few 9mms and that new Smith revolver haunts me.
I've never even seen one in person but hope to soon.
What is the street price?

A member here bought a real nice 3 inch within the past 6 months or so for about $1,000.
I walked right past it without noticing it, he called me as I was on the way home.

It had magna's on it, but it did have the box.
But, getting back to the OP's question.
Can't add much as I have not fired it yet. Hope to fix that problem soon when we have annual firearms qualification.

As one who carried a 6-2 on duty for a few years.
I also seen quite a few Model 66 snubs in the hands of other cops
for off-duty carry, or the higher brass for duty use.
Even in the holsters of the State Police Investigators.
I did have flame cutting problems with another 66 and
don't think that would be much, if any problem with the
9mm fodder that I utilize.
That said:
I like 9mm, and I like snubs.
Should I be able to save up for one..
The 986 PC will probably become my only DA revolver.
I've had a few Smiths before and a slew of Ruger DAs in
38/357, and one LCR in .327 Magnum.
No longer want to mess with buying or using speed-loaders
or speed-strips, I think I will be quite content with the PC
and the moon clips.
Please post your pics and opinions..carry load and holsters.
