But, Colt say's that they have a new Colt Cobra coming soon.
Kimber say's we have our new K6S a 6 shot phenomenon that
is the cats butt.

Whoo and behold the Smith 640 Pro is discovered (by me) and I
am not sure which way to go.

I have gone snubby crazy and this will be my purchase last ever.

Any of those three would be cool-to-own, but before you make your "last" gun purchase, LOL!!!, sorry I can't help it, take a long, hard look at the Kimber 6S *DCR* (Deluxe Carry Revolver). It's a sweet looking piece of functioning metallic art.

I've gotten to what I call the "Meh" point. Maybe I'm just tired of it or I've been exposed to so much that nothing is interesting anymore but I haven't been in a gun shop in months. I have no interest in go and when I did I had no interest in anything...this includes old and new guns. Everything was "Meh" I don't have a desire to pay for it. No point in having it. If it sits in a safe it's a waste of money

My LGS said that the Colt Cobra is a year out for availability and will also be priced at over $1000. Don't know if this is true.

I read on the Colt Forum that there are some shops with some inventory here and there and prices are dropping. I saw some way over $1000 at first and now I think going rate is around $750 in shops. Still $50 over msrp.

I have admitted to my better half that "need" was passed up long ago. Firearms and shooting sports are what keeps me alive with bicycling and golf. Periodically, or more often, I will acquire more firearms that I do not need, or golf clubs that I do not need. Re: OP. We all understand your situation. sooner or later ... I will be coming up with a S&W -39. Maybe it'll be a S&W - 59. Really would like to find a 639 ... ideally w/o the winged rear sight ... just the plain standard small rear sight. If I ever find one ... gonna buy it. Need it? Nope. Not in the least. I bought a new model 60 snub nose to replace the original one I bought, and sold, when the semi-auto change came to law enforcement. It is even nicer because it is rated for .357.

I handled the Kimber at my LGS, unique for sure and I must say that the action is like no other. The price, well, not sure I would stretch for it but it is a pretty cool piece.
Colt, hmmmm, can they build them like they used to?? That may be more the lure of interest for most
Smith and revolvers go well together!

Well, I would either take the new Cobra or the K6S. They are two new revolvers, while the S&W is just the same as it always been. However, if it was the K6S, it would be the new 3" version they are releasing. I will only go 2.5" in a 357mag, no shorter.

Now that the Cobra has been out and in the hands of shooters, it has been confirmed 100% (I already knew) that the new Cobra is just a revamped DSII/SFVI that Colt sold in the later '90s. That's not a bad thing though, and it appears the tweaks they did have enhanced it and made it better than the DSII/SFVI. So it should be a pretty slick shooting snubby. Not the glam of the originals with true V spring actions though.

The K6S is intriguing to me because I currently don't know what type action it has. I am interested in knowing what type of action system Kimber came up with for this revolver. The reports have been good on the K6S and it appears Kimber made a good quality snub too.

It all comes down to price and preference. Many things to consider between the two.

I handled the snubby version of the K6S a couple of weeks ago at the local Cabela's and was impressed. The smoothness of its action and cylinder opening/closing felt like a work of art. I'm not quite willing to shell out the big bucks for it yet, but it did appear to be a quality piece. And if I do, it will be the 3" version for sure.


As for the Cobra - something about that frosted finish it's got reminds me too much of an el-cheapo Charter Arms for me to get past. Maybe after I handle one I'll change my mind.

Most of my guns just "sit in the safe" but I don't consider them a waste of money, I enjoy owning them. You may certainly do as you please but just because you've lost interest in collecting doesn't mean others have. But I have slowed down so I get where you're coming from.

I've never looked at buying another gun as a waste of money. I tell the good wife that I'm just shifting assets. Guns to me are like money in the bank except you can look at them, fondle them, shoot them, work on them and just plain enjoy them. Something I've never been able to do with the money that sits in the bank! Keep buying and never say this is the last one....

Now I am obsessed with a particular pricey revolver which was only made for a couple of years. The itch has returned, or probably never went away. I've become so jaded over the years. Would be respected reviewers parroting manufacturers claims & opinions. Mainly for the "almighty dollar" whether for personal gain or ad revenue. I just can't find any of it believable. So the only evaluations I can sometimes rely on are ones of guns that have been manufactured for a while. Even user evaluations, such as ones found on this forum, have to be taken with a grain of salt. The evaluator may just be a fanboy for the brand. Or has virtually no frame of reference to compare brand A to any other brand.

As we've seen over the recent Remington R51 debacle, users & reviewers were raving over this autoloader. In the end of the first version of this gun, Remington had to recall each and every one. It remains to be seen whether V2 is any better.

In the end, I can say, I've purchased my share of duds. Live, learn and move on to greener pastures.

One of our shooters several years ago said something to the affect that his wife would be upset if he bought another gun. I took him aside and told him that even IF that was the truth at his house, never say it again here.
My wife wants for NOTHING! She could care less about what I buy.
Now about that new 3 inch Kimber....Never cared one way or the other til this 3 inch thing reared it's head.

very rarely do I find myself interested in new guns.... But being a fan of Savage, I told my brother to allocate the msr 10 hunter for me. It will pair up nice with my fp110 tactical, also in .308, and Cabela's had a nice display model Leupold at half off. So now I eagerly wait.

And Ruger with its 10mm with supported chamber, would go nicely with my 1066.

Don't need either of them. Already have similar guns in various calibers that would work as well.

But these things run in cycles. Stopped in my local pushers store last week, and he accused me of cheating on him. No transfers, no purchases, i believe I've only bought 1 gun this year.

Stick with the 640. The Cobra and Kimber are too young to know if they will be here long enough to find spare parts if needed.
