New Old Stock Model 57-1
I finally took delivery of my patiently awaited 41 Magnum. Purchased here on the forum and could not be happier, there are some good people here (Thanks Tyler!). The gun had 6 rounds fired when purchased new and then put away. Serial number is N929xxx ~ 1982 or so, but the box is a Lear Siegler box, the grips are stamped 1984. The frame must have been on the shelf a while before final assembly. This was never a real popular caliber I guess. I will shoot some 41 specials thanks to Starline with 210 grain JHC Sierras over 12.5 gr. 2400 tomorrow and report back...that will be fun! Any further loading ideas would be most appreciated.

That's a really nice looking gun, congratulations! My buddy has a nice S&W 41 mag. His is nickel iirc. There nice shooters, with not too much recoil. You're gonna love that thing. What I remember most about it was that you could actually see the rounds going downrange. If you had a good sunlight angle.

The 41 magnum is my sisters fav caliber . She shoots a 4" nickel model 57 using a nice mid range load using magnum brass . I reload for her . I really would not waste time and money on 41 spl brass . Just use the std 41 mag brass with a faster burn powder in burn rate from Bullseye to Unique using a std 200-210 gr cast / plated bullet . 4.5 grs of Bullseye makes a real nice target load . It was Elmer Keith's " gallery load " for the 41 . 5.0 grs of Red Dot works equally well and fills the case better .
Trail Boss would be another good choice when punching paper and NO chance of double charging a case .

Great, thank you for the comments. My goal is light target rounds. So I like the idea of 4.5 bullseye but that would leave the 41 mag case largely empty but ok then I guess. Have you made any experience with W231? Equivalent to 4.5 Bullseye maybe ~5.0 gr W231. I am not familiar with Red Dot but I see the slower Blue Dot mentioned often which I was going to try at some point. Thanks again pointing me towards the fast burners.

Thank you for the comments, I have a no pinned non recessed model 28 which shoots like a laser. I do not mind those and expect this to be a great shooter. Short weekend and too much work, got to wait another week to try.

Great looking gun sir. Lots of 41 fans here. You will find the load you like pretty fast and don't be afraid of warming them up a little. The gun can easily handle them. Bought my first 41 mag M57 back in 1980. Been a fan since. Be careful though. They multiple quickly.

That is a beauty. I haven't shot a S&W 41 Magnum that wasn't a tack driver. You'll enjoy that one.

Stay away from Blue Dot for 41 Magnum.

Great looking M57... I agree with 629Shoooter stay away from blue Dot.
Have a couple hundred rounds of 41's loaded with Blue Dot that I cannot shoot....
