I need answers
First time on a fourm, quick questions wondering if anybody has had the same issue I am... baught a 629 PC right after Christmas took it out and ran 24 rounds through it and, as any decent gun owner would, I cleaned it religiously. Got my holster in the mail and put the gun in the holster in the gun safe untill just now. Pulled it out just to clean it and I ran two patches through the barrel and they were covered in green tarnish??? Haven’t touched the gun since the last time i cleaned it. Any reasons why this could be happening? Or how to prevent it from happening in the future? Thanks a lot

Most likely it's just copper fouling. Some bore cleaners won't entirely clean it out on the first go around.

I'd say there was some solvent left in there that was still working on the copper streaks

Just some copper fouling, nothing to worry about.

When you finish cleaning your gun next time, run a dry patch or two through the bore with a tight fitting jag, then run a patch with a small amount of your favorite gun oil through the bore. That should stop any continued solvent reaction in the bore, which is what you experienced from leaving solvent in the bore the last time around.

I use the Hoppes bore solvent meant for jacketed bullets. It takes the copper fouling out easily.

It's no problem, happens to me quite often. It's copper and won't hurt anything. I also use Hoppes and it takes most of it out. Clean the bore again for a day or two and all of it will disappear.

I often clean my gun right after shooting them, I swab the barrels wet, then I use a bronze brush, I then run a dry patch ,than a moist one with a mild bore cleaner. I then leave it over night. The next day I run a couple dry patches through the barrel again. A lot of grunge comes out the next day. I rather do that than scrub the heck out of the bore.

Everyone was spot on the only thing I'll add is DO NOT store the gun in a holster it can trap moisture and even stainless steel can rust over time.

Welcome to the board Urb.
As a rule storing a gun in it's holster is not a great idea, holsters can sometime react with the guns finish under certain conditions.

Is it OK to store my gun in the holster if it's my every day carry? OK, kind of tongue in cheek there. If a gun is used fairly frequently (couple times a month, etc) and cleaned/wiped after using...it's not a problem to leave it in the holster if you want. Especially stainless. You should be giving a light wipe with silicone cloth, etc with a little oil, CLP, Balistol, etc prior to storing anyway. That will protect it. Blued guns, especially collectables should be wiped and put in "sock" to keep it out of the air, even in your safe. Make sure those expensive guns don't have your finger prints on them before oiling/socking...gloves!
