Which Models of the 686 Are 7-Shot in a 3 inch Barrel?
Hey all,
Quick question.
I've seen different M686 revolvers with a 3 inch barrel and a 7-shot cylinder. I thought it was only the 686+ model.
Would you all mind giving me a quick rundown of which 686 revolvers came in a 3 inch barrel with a 7 or 8 shot cylinder?
Thank you for your help.

Just the plain barrels, or are you interested in the 3-inch Carry Comp variations, too? (aka PowerPorts).

All 686+ are 7 shot. The + is what indicates it is a 7 shot model. If it is not a + model, then it is 6 shot (unless converted after purchase.) There are no 8 shot 686s in 357 cal. You need to go up a frame size for that.
There have been many production runs of various editions of 3" 686+ (and 686/6 shot).
Currently I believe the Delxe and Talo 3-5-7 models are most common /easiest to find. A quick search of Gun Broker will give you insight.
I have a Talo in 3". I like it allot.

There are only 3 different 3" 686 Plus currently in production. The standard model, The Deluxe model that comes with the wooden "snakeskin" grips and the 3-5-7 version with wooden grips and unfluted cylinder.

Not sure the context of the question, so I am going to add the 586 L-Comp to the list. Seven shot 3" with an amazing trigger.

That L-Comp 585 has a look similar to my 3" 686+ - similar, but not exact!

Maybe I should explain a bit better.
I have a M65-5 in 3 inch that I have toyed with the idea of either selling or more likely trading towards a 3 inch barreled, 686 7 shot or a 586 L-Comp. I've loved that 586 L-Comp for a long time.
I was just trying to figure out what different 686 models that are out there, in that configuration that I listed, that I need to look at if the option ever presents itself.
Thanks for the info guys.
