Default X-frame quality?

A short time ago (2 weeks) I purchased a new X-frame 500 S&W (163501). This is to compliment my 460 XVR (163460) I purchased about 10 years ago.

The finish on the new 500 is, in my opinion, sub-par. I can still see the machine marks on the firearm. Way worse than the 460 has.

Anyone else noticed this? The area a couple of inches forward of the cylinder.

460 top, 500 below

Not sure if this pic shows how "bad" it is (SS is hard to pic)....

Personally, I am not at all offended by the marks you point out.

It's the same sort of issue as with the "they don't make them like they used to" crowd for which I am very grateful. I prefer the superior metallurgy and diversity of calibers like the 500 and 460.

Using skilled labor to meticulously polish a "working" gun will radically increase the cost of the item.

I've had a number of 500s since 2003, all of them excellent working guns. Love the 500s. Don

You guys are right - I am over thinking it. I do enjoy the 500 and am looking forward to start reloading for it too.

Thanks.

A somewhat off topic question; I'm picking up my 500 in a week and was wondering how pronounced is the "500" logo on the right side of your revolver? I think that logo is laser engraved? It seems mine is quite light.

And if you do reload, you will LOVE the advantages. Not only the huge cost savings but the ability to exactly tailor the loads to your desires. From "powder puff" and fun Trail Boss rounds to pretty beastly cartridges that can effectively and safely take down anything that walks on this earth.

Not to mention the superb accuracy of these guns, far better than 99% of shooters can exploit and that number does include me. Don

It is not too dark. I will try and get a pic of the XVR and the 500 together.

I agree. The 460 is awesome. I mounted that Leupold scope and have a blast (literally) at 200 yds. It is much better than I allow it to be.
I do enjoy the big bores.
I reload (among others) 44Mag, 45 Colt, 454 Casull, 460S&W, 50AE and now starting on 500S&W. A lot of these cartridges can be loaded down and up with the right powders - you can make them whatever you want them to be.

The one I have struggled with, to be honest, is the 50AE. Getting the Desert Eagle to cycle reliably consistently has been a challenge (44 and 50).

Here is a pic. Again, lighting in basement is not the best for these pics.
The engraving is simply an outline. The XVR on the 460 is the boldest due to some fill.
