Question Model 651-1 .22 Mag

This past Saturday I acquired a S&W 651-1
Information from the box label:
Product Code: 103902
Serial No: BUC7880
Spec Ord: 5206
Model No: 651
Caliber .22M
Barrel: 4
Stock: RB
Features: Adj Sight
Two questions: 1. Could I get help with an approximate shipping date and 2. I've looked in the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson 4th Edition and cannot find where this firearm was engraved. The right side of the frame has the outline of a Mountain Sheep and there is additional engraving on the barrel, cylinder and frame. Did it come from the factory with this engraving or was this aftermarket?
Thanks for your help and yes, I will be removing the Uncle Mike rubbers for more traditional S&W wood stocks.

Sounds like custom engraving after shipping from S&W. If you post pictures someone many be able to recognize the work and name the engraver.

If the Spec Ord digits indicate what they have in the past - then 5206 translates to the 206th day of the year ending in 5. I don't know enough about the 651 to say for sure if that indicates 1995 or 2005 ...

The 651 ended production in 2000, so its "ready to ship" day (may have been close to the actual ship date) would have been July 25, 1995. Feel free to have a 22nd birthday party in 8 days .

Agree on the photos for an ID on the engraving. Enjoy!

The Product Code is for a standard production gun. Had it been factory engraved, for inventory tracking reasons, it would of likely had a new unique product code.

Spec. Ord. number indicates a ship date of.....

July 25, 1995.

The decade can be determined by the s/n. (It's also possible to tell by looking at the style of the box, the dash number, and other time specific features found on the gun itself).
