Default My first gun ... 627 pro series

Hi all,

I am new here and just posted my first post over in the new guy thread.

I bought my 627 several months ago and so far have about a thousand rounds through the gun so far.

I research things to death...just ask my wife what happens when it is time to make a purchase or start a project .. Anyway, I did lots of reading, watching vids, etc on this gun and the more I shoot it, I like it even more.

ESPECIALLY, since I have also bought a shield 9mm since the 627 and even though I am still new with the revolver, the 627 spoiled me in being very forgiving for my lack of shooting skill. The small 9mm is making me develop better skills and I am, but once I get the 627 back in my hands, it just feels right at home.

I know there are many long time experienced revolver shooters here who have shot many types and sizes over the years. I look forward to learning from you and continuing to enjoy my 627.

Thanks

Welcome, I have a several SW revolvers and none of them have ever let me down.
You are doing it right, but you will find out the more you shoot more guns you will want.
Keep shooting and collecting.

I have many revolvers and semi autos. My 627 pro is by far my absolute favorite gun to shoot. I shoot every thing from 38 short colts in competition to full house magnums. You made an excellent choice. Enjoy!

Default 627 Pro Series

Welcome HDX2! I basically took the same route, and opted for the Pro Series 627, because I love the slab 4" barrel, and it is such a balanced and beautiful (minus the butt hole) 357 revolver.

It's just a great shooter and absorbs full loaded 357 ammo. The Shield 40 is my EDC and a great defensive handgun.

Cheers!

Welcome to the forums, hdtwice.

I bought my 627-5 Pro about 1 1/4 years ago and it is definitely one of my favorite range guns. I have a few thousand rounds down the pipe on mine now and it still shoots great. A couple of things I have done with my 627 is to change out the rubber grips with some nice Cocobolo wood Ahrends stocks and I also swapped out the red ramp front sight with the gold bead patridge style front sight like the 5" 627 Performance Center guns come with. I find that the gold bead front sight is much easier for my old eyes to pick up as compared to the red ramp sight. And the last thing I changed on mine is the cylinder release thumbpiece from the new style it came with to the older style that my 629-3 Classic has because I prefer the old style.

Here is a pic of mine as it sits now, except for the old style thumbpiece that I recently changed.

I've had a 627 Pro for several years. The only N frame .357 I've ever owned. It is one sweet shooter. I did replace the grips with wood, plug the Hillary hole, and do my standard action tuning. Probably will keep that one till the end.

Well you sure picked an awesome gun for your first. I bought a new 627-5 Pro last year but I haven't shot probably 100 rounds down the tube. I mostly shoot the guns I carry so the 627 doesn't get shot much.

I too enjoy my 627 pro. Shoot it occasionally in the local uspsa matches. It's certainly one of my favorite S&Ws

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome.

I like the gold bead sight idea. I always have a pair of reading glasses with me these days and that orange front sight is hard to pick up at times. Who would have thought bright orange could be hard to see. Thanks for the tip. Love the look of the wood grips.

Those 627's are great looking revolvers. I have never seen one in person. Only pictures...

One of the major reasons I wanted a 627 Pro was the interchangeable front sight. I ordered a red FO sight from S&W before I even received the gun and installed it immediately upon receipt. Changed the rear sight to a V notch for rapid acquisition of targets. That set up worked well for plate matches, bowling pins, etc. I don't do that sort of thing anymore, so I may put the original sights back on. Or maybe not.

I ordered it from Brownell's and it is a Smith & Wesson part. Luckily the 627 Pro uses the quick change front sight system like my 629-3 Classic uses, as it makes changing the front sight blade quick and easy.

BTW, here is a link to the front sight blade on Brownell's if you decide to order one and try it out. <<<LINK>>>

I sure like mine. It really rocketed to top of the "must take to the range" list.

I was just taking some pics of my newest Culina stocks I purchased and installed on my blue 27-5 and took an updated pic of my 627 Pro with the old style thumbpiece installed. Here is how it sits now:
