I just picked up a mint Model 19-7 K-comp at an estate sale. Don't know much about these. The trigger seems to be nearly on par with my Python. I like the finish, apparently "graphite steel". Does anyone have any wisdom to share? Most particularly I am wondering how the finish stands up to the elements. Also, I have never owned or fired a ported revolver. It seems like a great feature, but I am envisioning a volcano of muzzle flash erupting out of the top of the barrel. Thanks in advance for any and all replies.

If this is what I think, it's a rare bird indeed. 3", carbon steel finish, port just ahead of the front sight, not sure if this came with factory wood grips or black rubber (the latter I suspect). I'm definitely not an expert, but a little quick googling showed prices all over the board, $800 - $1200+... think I saw one listed for $2200. Do you have the box, and does it look to be fired much??

Very rare and very desirable. You won't notice the flames from the port unless you're really looking for them, or if you're in low light. That's a great find, I wish I could find estate sales like that.

The only S&W revolver I have ever sold.... Sometimes I regret it, just due to the escalation of prices of prelock PC guns, but it is gone. At the time it was an answer to a question I never had. I have a Magna-ported 65 Lady Smith and the 19 K-Comp was a lot heavier, due to the 586 style full lug barrel. It also wouldn't fit in any of my 3" k frame holsters. So I realized I would probably never carry it. The sights were really nice, but it got sent down the line to a forum member. I bought it at a local gun show for crazy low money, so I made money on it and the guy I sold it to got a deal.

I'm heading out of town on business, so I won't be able to post pics For a while. Hopper, that is exactly the same revolver, but mine has rubber grips. I don't think it has been fired at all. They had a sale of over 300 guns owned by this man last year where I purchased a 686-5, 8 3/8" barrel and a model 60-7, both brand new. This year an additional 40+ guns from the same estate were sold. Once again, almost every gun was brand spankin' new with box, papers, etc. I've copied a picture of an identical gun from the internet...

Here is mine i bought about 7 years ago. Factory grips were Unclie Mikes rubber. I have the box and docs for it. Nice guns. Ive shot mine, but its turned into a safe queen.

WOW. Literally brand-new, box, and papers? I'm dying to know what you paid, but too polite to ask. I think you lucked into a rare gem indeed, that is an insanely cool M19 that I didn't even know existed until I started nosing around a bit after reading your first post. It sure does look a lot like the 586 L-Comp that's sold today, but yours should have that deep factory blueing that looks like you could swim in it. And yours is a K-frame. Really, really fantastic!

Hopper, I'm not too proud to tell. The asking price was $750, but they knocked it down to $600 for me. In addition to that, they covered the $40 background check fee for me. My wife was still mad that I bought "another gun"! At the sale last year I paid $500 for a new 686-5 and $300 for a new 60-7. What I find crazy is that I got these deals because I showed up toward the end and these items had not sold. I am haunted by the fact that at the sale last year I passed up a 6" Model 27 in very good condition for $300. Out of 375+ firearms that this guy hoarded I'd say that at least 70-80 were nice Smith and Wesson revolvers.

Tried to take some photos. Sorry for the poor lighting and staging. The revolver seems unfired, but there is a slight turn line developing. I'm going to downgrade my description from "new in box" to "unfired/heavily fondled"

The finish will hold up to a certain percent, but the laser factory markings can wear down with excessive cleaning. The night sight on my revolver wore out, and I replaced it with a factory blaze orange ramp, and added a W/O rear sight which I can acquire very fast. Unless you are shooting in low light conditions, you won't really see or be bothered by any port blasts. The porting really helps you keep on target when shooting a timed fire course. **NOTE** The grips are ones made in Thailand I bought on a popular auction site. They really fit the hand and give a nice appearance.

Model 39, I really like the looks of yours with the wood grips. I think the night sight on mine is also worn out.

I remember when these hit the market. Wish I bought one back then but they were pretty pricey compared to the regular lineup.

Just got aound to checking the serial# which starts with SDA, telling me that this revolver is from the first run in 1994. The frame is also stamped "002" in a couple of places, does this mean anything?

Who ever is running that sale should be sued for malpractice ! Those prices are way behind the market. Nice scores.

I've got SDA00XX, which has 135 stamped in the yoke, wondered about that too. Came unfired with odd fake ivory grips, quickly changed over to rubber boots.

Myself and hundreds of others wish we were at that sale.

Ported guns are a plus to some and a minus. to others. I have many and love them all. It's the low light, defensive situation that would cause some momentary flash blindness. That's a drawback for those situations. I load those rounds to reduce that from happening for my carry guns. I shoot .357 to .44 ported short barrels and find a very noticeable advantage.

Dang ya'll are killin me. I'm about to buy a new S&W and I see this thread. I immediately posted a WTB on the WTB Section.

I didn't know they made this in a K frame. I guess I should get Supicia's book off the shelf and see what I'm missing.
