M17-4 grips
These are the grips from my M17-4 that I'm planning to sell. Are they anything special and worth keeping, or should I sell them with the gun?

They are indeed special since they appear in great shape and are probably original. This should be a good selling point, not to mention the right thing to do.

Sell them with the gun. You could get another set like it on ebay for $30-$50, most days. Bob

I agree!
Original grips should ALWAYS stay with the gun they came on from the factory. It's such a tragedy when someone splits the two apart in an attempt to profit more.
I would like to point out though, I have a 17-4 from 1980 and the original magna stocks are numbered to it. I don't see any numbers on the OP's pair. Just pointing that out, but I guess it's possible S&W stopped numbering them or maybe they aren't original.

Perhaps sometimes. But I paid $500 for this Colt OMM, then sold the stocks that were original to it for $250 on ebay. Then I found a nice set of cocobolo, for $40. The bottom line for me is that I got a beautiful Colt target revolver for $290! I'm sure there are collectors who would consider that a tragedy.
But I'm not a collector!
The 17-3 had Sile stocks when I bought it, so the set it wears now was an up-grade.
