M&P 340 .357 2"
I go to the range about twice a week so yesterday I decided that my little 11 oz 2" .357 J frame was up for duty. Just had a trigger job on it to reduce the D/A pull to about 6 pounds so was anxious to try the little guy out. Shot really well with 38 spl & 38 spl+P so loaded 5 rounds of 357 mag to see how it handled that. A very unpleasant experience- like firing a bazooka in your hand! Word to the wise if you have or acquire one - become preficiet with 38 +P.

I've no need for 38+P. I practice with hundreds of rounds of mild 38spl thru my M&P 340. I don't strive for faster than one shot every 1.5 - 2 seconds. I'm pretty confident I can hit a 5 for 5 on an orange at 30 feet.
Every few hundred rounds or 6 months (whichever comes first) I shoot 5 rounds of my .357mag carry load. I'm pretty confident I can put all 5 in an orange at 30 feet.
That's enough mag shooting for another 6 months, but I carry it with confidence loaded with five .357's.
Nothing personal, but I'm skeptical of a 6lb pull on a J frame. I've tinkered with them for 30 years and I doubt the reliability of anything under 9-10 lbs. I have K's & N's that are reliable with match ammo at 7 lbs. But J's have coil springs with light little hammers. Of course, there's always a discussion going on of how to measure trigger pulls. Regardless what the pull weight is, if it's been altered I wouldn't trust it until it had zero FTF's in 2-300 rounds. Mine started at 15lb and it's now 11lb. I have 2 daughters who are quite proficient with their airweight J's and stock 12lb pulls.

The 340 isn't to bad with 125gr Golden Saber .357, but I wouldn't want to shoot a lot of it in a short period of time. I stick to 135gr GDHP .38 in mine, much more pleasant. The 340 is a great revolver.

The M&P 340 is more pleasant ( ) to shoot than the PD variant. I use the CCI Blazer .357 158gr medium load and any of the 110gr JHP Magnum loads for carry. The steel cylinder allows the use of the 110gr loads which are perfect in the M&P, but can't be used in the PD lest the Ti cylinder incur damage.

Congratulations on a great revolver. If you want a little more "punch" try the 357 Magnum 125 gr. Remington Golden Saber. Speer does make a 135 gr. 357 Magnum (short barrel) load. But, those are hard to find.

I switched out the laser grips that came with my M&P 340 for Pachmayr compact grips. It adds a little weight but the gun is still very light. With those grips 110 grain magnums loads feel pretty light.

The 340 PD is not about pleasant to shoot or look at. It is about easy to carry and have when you need it.

Houston Ric has it right.
I have carried a 360pd for several years in the backcountry. I love it !
It is not a range toy.
It is not a long distance shooter.
It is not for newbies !!!
Carry often, shoot little.
If you want to learn how to flinch, this is the gun for you.
The dumbest stunt S&W ever pulled was leaving the metal backstrap exposed with their stupid rubber grip. Change that out and get a glove for the range. Learn the Jerry Miculek death grip.
Great gun for what it is.

I usually carry my 640 Pro in a Lobo Enhanced Pancake, but it's gotten warm enough recently that I can't wear any of my vests to keep the thing covered up. I started pocket carrying my M&P 340, and I'm getting used to it. I don't mind 629shooter's .357 Magnum 125 gr. Remington Golden Sabers, but I carry 31FordA's Speer 135gr GDHP .38 +Ps.
For shooting I much prefer Hogue's Centennial Tamer for its fully covered back strap, but it's too big for my pocket so I put on Hogue's Bantam. I like it better than Uncle Mike's or the stock grip that came on the gun.
Everyone's a bit different.
