NYSP 681 info help and approximate value for a friend please
I have a neighbor that has a mod 681 with rosewood grips. It is stamped NYSP on left side of frame. SN is 14998. He traded for it several years ago. He is not interested in selling, but would like some information about it. All help is greatly appreciated.

For information on "apron value" you'll need to go to a cooking forum.
As for the "approx" value of that nice 681, I'd peg it at about $650 up after looking closely at condition. I'm not sure whether the NYSP marking will add to or detract from the value, probably it will depend on the buyer. BTW, that is probably not the complete, correct serial number, as all of the L-frames I've seen have an alpha-numeric code. Is that the whole SN from the bottom of the butt?

Nice gun. The grips look aftermarket. $650 sounds about right to me +/- $100.

Froggie, I am having a hard time finding the cooking source you gave me Sorry about auto correct flub, I can't seem to edit the title. You are right about SN, I took the number from the side of the butt rather than from the bottom. I will have to see if I can get another look at the pistol for correct number.

I paid exactly 650 for mine about 3 months ago. Last month I saw one at a really out of the way gun shop near the OBX, tagged at 575 otd. I left it there, called back in 2 days it was gone.
Recently a really nice example was sold in the classifieds for 800+.
Buy the gun.
