Default Current production revolver with lanyard loop?

Does S&W currently make a revolver with a provision for attaching a lanyard?

Serial number is in the way, unless grips are adapted for a side lanyard. I had seen somewhere the Hogue grip adapted for a lanyard.

Might be able to re purpose the Hogue adapter. It should fit under wood grips like a T grip adapter, and have a loop added to it. I tried it on my model 64 just now with my altmonte grips. It tightened up firmly, and should work, after a loop is added to the adapter.

Yes, the 2" model 317 (alloy J frame .22 LR) has one, more of a pin on the lower rear back corner of the grip frame. Other models may also have this feature.

Yes, I would think it would have to be in the grips some how. I thought I saw a snubby with rubber grips that had a cut out at the back of the butt with a round pin running across it allowing you to snap a lanyard to it.

It looks like neither the 360 or the 317 currently have the feature...at least according the S&W website.

The model 317 AirLite with 3 inch barrel and adjustable sights also has the pin for lanyard attachment....When you remove the grips look for it....I lost mine , didn't even know what it was for.

If you can find a 360J model (the .38 special that was contracted with the Japanese Police) under the extended grip is a hole that was intended for use with a lanyard. The hole is in the middle of the grip bottom where the serial number is on most Smith's. If you search on here you will find some postings about it. Most of the ones that surface here have been contract overruns that don't have a lanyard but have the hole.

I have one but I would not know how to make it function with a lanyard it just has the hole where it is supposed to go.

If you google 360J Japanese Police you will find some pictures of the lanyard in place and the grips they use. Most of the pictures you will find are of model revolvers that are sold in Japan but it gives you a look at how it is used.

And to maybe answer the above question the only use I could see would be if you were a hiker or more likely a boater you may want some way to secure your handgun to your person while out and about?

When I used to do rock climbing (in rattlesnake country at that), I always used a lanyard on my M&P 340 and 340 PD. Carried shot shells in the first two chambers. Always felt a little better when hanging off of a rock face, knowing that I couldn't lose my gun if I needed to pull it on a snake. (I don't often kill snakes....unless I feel threatened.....has only happened rarely.)

Best Regards, Les

All my Night Guards (not in current production though not too many years out of production) have the notch in the lower grip frame for a lanyard.

It's actually on the backstrap, not the grip bottom. My son had a 360J, 38 Spcl. (+P) & as I recall it was in the same spot.

The pin is not in this one. They tend to always fall out when you remove the grips so I leave them out but you can see the holes for the pin here.

Yup,

my 432 Airlight in 32 H&R Magnum has that pin. So does my .38 Sp 342PD Airlight.

Out of production, the Model 22 of 1917 has a true lanyard loop attached to the butt of the revolver. Useless to me, I had it removed to be able to attach Pach grips.

Even the 296 in 44 Special had a lanyard loop at the bottom rear of the pistol grip.

When I think of lanyards, I think of the telephone cord ones seen attached to some M9s or the huge rope ones the Canadian
Mounties wore which looked especially neat with Colt New
Services.

Both the 431PD and 4532PD have the little pin for attaching a lanyard at the base grip frame. Probably can't see in this photo.
