Default Production delays?

Hi

Is anyone aware of any delays in production @ S&W?

I'm specifically interested in the classic series, and specifically the 4" 586.

I'm trying to get a handle on what is going on with my order; I ordered a 586 through my dealer in January, and them and the S&W distributor (Australia) can't give any sort of ETA. Last time (after over five months) they suggested that maybe it would be September.

I'm getting the feeling that September might be the next shipment for the distributor and either S&W hasn't been able to fulfill the order yet, or they haven't ordered it yet due to not enough guns on their order books to make the order worthwhile (importation fees, etc).

Getting a little dejected from Australia's "Australia Tax"es and long waits for stuff apparently due to isolation.

Also getting concerned about quality. It has been looking that the classics are great quality, better than my 686 was, which had some issues, and canted barrels to be a thing of the past. Then you keep reading the same old things, people with new guns with issues that shouldn't exist.

It's just extra worrying after waiting so long. I'd hate to FINALLY get the gun and something be unacceptable on it. And I'm not all that finicky.

Anyways, at least I'm not spending money on guns while I'm waiting!

Thanks bigwheel.

I had seen before that there doesn't seem to be any problems over there getting them, but maybe I was missing something.

I know exporting (firearms stuff) out of the US isn't real easy these days with the Anti-Terrorism rules, and importing to here is about as bad.

I could probably buy one myself, if I can find a dealer that would do that over there, and get it here in fairly short order. That would cost about twice as much in the end (import fees & AUD/USD conversion) as buying here and waiting.

Thank you timspawn! You guys are all over it, I really appreciate that!

I get the impression (from the beginning of the order really) that it's more to do with our distributor than with S&W. It's all very hush-hush, they can't / won't say basically anything. Like surely, being a distributor for S&W, they would know what is going on. There would be communication between them, surely.

I dunno, I feel I'm getting similarly shafted on an order for a new seat for my bike. They say they have it and are waiting on the bolts I also ordered. It's great having a bike you can't use because you can't sit on it. Sigh...

Probably just some bad luck really, combined with "because Australia". A whole bunch of cabin fever going on, winter, can't ride, want my revolver, sigh... lol.

I know it's not pertinent now, but if you find you need hard to get firearms parts in the future, NZ forum member just used this service to import from the US with good results.
