Default Model 19 Indentification Help

Looking for assistance in indentifying my wife's pistol. I think it is a model 19 with a 4 inch barrel in 357 mag. The serial number is AAP0625. The wooden hand grip is stamped May 14, 1984. I really know very little about S & W pistols. Also looking for an approximate sell price. The gun is 98% or greater. The only marks are on the cylinder- just slightly. Less than a box of bullets. No paperwork, etc. Just the pistol.

I think can I attached a photo if that would help. I am a first user.

So any help would be great.

Thanks,

Fritz

Hi! Open up the cylinder and there will be the model number stamped on the frame along with the serial number. It should say MOD 19-?, probably 19-5. You already have the approximate manufacturer date 1982-1984. In the condition you describe I would not sell it for less than $500 and you might get as much as $650.

Is it a 586 with no number beside it? Or, 586-1, or -2, etc?

If there is no "dash number" or a "-1", look also for an "M" stamped adjacent to the serial number. If there is none, there is an open (and still active) recall.

Adios,

Pizza Bob

Your name and English ability suggest that you may not be in the USA. An Austrian member said S&W and other revolvers are hard to sell and go for less than in the USA, due to buyers preferring autoloading handguns.

But S&W's have long been popular in Germany, Sweden, etc.
