Default Newbie with first Smith. Red dot and Sights?

Hi all, just picked up my first Smith and Wesson pistol. I've been wanting a full size handgun with the capability of adding a red dot and my LGS had a killer deal on an M&P 5" Performance Center ported model. Took it to the range and absolutely love it.
My only concern is my front sight. I've read about it, and experienced first hand how the porting blackens the front sight quickly.
I'm not too sure about adding a red dot just yet so I'm throwing around the idea of adding the Dawson Precision sight set with the FO front and blacked rear. I have a set on my EDC Walther P99 and they work well.
Anyone running these on this model gun? Do they cowitness as advertised? Also, which red dot is everyone running? Cabelas has had the RMR on sale for a good price. Any thoughts? Thanks and happy to be aboard!

Welcome to the forum. I assume your purchase is a 9mm M&P auto? If that's the case then you will be better off posting in the semi auto section of the forum under M&P. The moderators may come along and move this post for you or you can re-post in that section. I'm sure you will get plenty of advice there.

Good luck with your new firearm!
