Default New guy

Hello, I picked up a used 442 recently and I may have done something dumb. I noticed that the trigger would stick when I would dry fire it (haven't gotten the chance to actually shoot it). I decided to open it up so I removed the grip and the side plate and dry fired a couple times (mistake) and then a small pin flew out and hit me in the face. I'm not sure where it came from or how to put it back but any help would be appreciated. It is the small cylindrical pin to the right.

That's the pin that retains the firing pin and firing pin spring. It should slide right back into its hole. Don't do that (dry fire with the side plate off) anymore.

It would be nice if you would update your profile to include your location for future reference.

Lesson learned. Haha sorry I'm pretty new to this, which hole exactly does it go in to?

Edit: I figured it out. Thank you for the quick reply!

Can't help you with pin location, but that appears to be a 442, not a 422, which is a semi-auto .22

Adios,

Pizza Bob

Welcome aboard from Pennsylvania. Glad you got the information you needed. You were fortunate to find the pin!

Thank you for the nice welcome! Any ideas on how to fix the sticking trigger? I was thinking putting 100 or so rounds through it wouldn't hurt

A good thorough cleaning of all internal parts would be where I'd start. Then give it a light lube on the moving parts. Then take it out to shoot. Might fix it, might not, but it couldn't hurt. I'm assuming that you feel comfortable taking it down, since you've taken the side plate off. If you don't want to disassemble, then hose it out with some non-chlorinated brake cleaner.

Side note; don't separate the hand from it's mount, just leave it connected to the trigger.

Welcome to the forum, you're a better man than me, I know 1911s, I know AR-15s and Glocks, I break out in a cold sweat when I have to remove the side plate and clean out the gunk in my revolvers. I have bad dreams about bringing them to a gunsmith with all the pieces in a box.

Welcome to the FORUM! I RARELY take off a side cover. Don't really see the need normally. Just remember the internet for you tube videos, if stuck again. Some wonderful stuff out there. NOW, take it out & FIRE it! Bob

Welcome man

You can dry cycle that gun with the side plats off l day long ifn yeh want. I do every time I pull mine apart before I put the side plats back on to make sure function is fine. Must have done it a hundred times seems like when I was figuring out my lock delete parts. Always rode the hammer home with my thumb though. May hop a part up too much full dry firing to work and yep I'll be trying that next time I tear my apart.

Here's what I do

Keep gun with cylinder release side down
Grip like normal on frame
Finger straight and off trigger
Left index finger push down on every part you can touch inside all need to be fully seated for it to work
Put right index fingertip on hand pivot pin that's the bar that runs up off trigger keep finger on this during cycle
Use middle finger to run trigger
And yer good

Remember. When I do this I ride the hammer with my thumb so its not a full on true dry fire but if there's a hitch somewhere you should be able to find it doing this.

Hope it helps
