Default Model 10-8 3" Kframe SCORE! And Leather suggestion ADDED PICS

I won me a Model 10-8 3" HBAR for a decent price. Yay for me.

I hope to have it in my hands at the end of the week.

I already ordered me a BK grip adapter and now I need a holster for plain clothes duty carry.

I would prefer leather to minimize kydex abrasions on a blued surface.

I once had the original Bianchi 7L Shadow in leather for my kframes way back when.

By policy I am supposed to carry Level 1 retention in a plain clothes holster. Yuck if it's a thumb break.

Does anyone make a leather revolver holster with a hammer spur protector if someone has a slight case of the dunlops?

I will chance it with Admin and go open top.

Nice find! I really like the Lobo enhanced pancake, they can be made with a hammer shield. Doesn't a level 1 holster just mean it's held in by friction?

The way our policy is written, level one is defined as a thumb break or similar device.

I think it was written some time back and these things are just hard to change. IIRC, I can get it approved by the Chief. My preference will be an open top.

Model 10 3 inch. That's one still on my list.

If a police turn-in, (?), could it be one of that batch of S&W revolvers from Victoria, Australia ? I think they had a special "Victoria" state seal stamped on them.
That would make a nice touch, since I see your location in Texas.

For the holster try D.M. Bullard's "Combat" holster with the bodyguard. I have these holsters for J & K frames as well as 1911. Oh and he is in Azle, TX.

You can get a retention strap made a couple of different ways if it helps. I've seen some that go across the trigger guard if you really want the top to be open.

Try the El Paso Model 2. Mine is basket stamped and lined. About identical to Safariland's old Model 29. Good for duty or PC wear.

The Bianchi Shadow was a better concealed holster, but t may be hard to find in three-inch form. El Paso will build it for your three-inch barrel. The Model 2 does have a thumb-break strap.

Or, go to the Lounge or the holster forum and ask for Lobo Leather. They'll make you what you want. Or, contact Ken Null and get his catalog.

You might also check out Tucker Gunleather. Their HF3 revolver holster can be had with a thumb break, but if you will call and talk to Rob, he may also have another suggestion for you if the open top just won't fly. Both Lobo and Tucker make exceptionally fine leather products.

I would recommend Elpaso Saddlery or Doc Barranti with as much bbq flash as you can afford. Good guns deserve good leather and you have a family heirloom in the making. I have family in Goliad County and I always take a favorite S&W and good leather when I go. An old S.D. Myers would look nice however it might be difficult to find one for K frame 3".

Hahahha,

I am exactly the opposite. No flash and BBQ in my belly. Goliad is 20 minutes away and I am waiting for cooler weather to go try out the Goliad Brewery. I am told General Zaragosa beer on tap is some good stuff.

I might just get something used to get me buy till I find something I want. A lot of good choices. I have always liked the Tortilla...holster.

Tucker's are fancy.

The discontinued Bianchi Shadow 8L for a 2.5" S&W 19/66 will work for a 3" 10/64. The barrels set deeper into the frames due to the shorter cylinders on the 10/64 models, so there is only about a 1/4" more length, which is hardly noticeable.

I use a DeSantis for my 3" 64 and 65's. Tight fit, no thumb strap needed.

The holster on the left is a PWL (Price Western Leather) that I got with my S&W 64, which I bought used. The other is another DeSantis but with wider belt slots.

Colby Bruce beat me to it, above. I use the DeSantis Speed Master holster for my 3.0 inch barreled K-frames - a 4.0 inch barreled K-frame, as well as Ruger Security Six will also fit, but the barrel will stick out of the bottom of the holster. The Speed Master is still being made, and there is also a version made with a thumb break:

BELT HOLSTERS provided by DeSantis Holster

Good luck,

Dave

Galco makes a holster much like the DeSantis above. This is for a 4" K frame.

Having a 3" M65 as well as a pre-M10 3" M&P, I use an old Bianchi Shadow (very nearly worn out) and a DeSantis model like the photos show.

They serve OK, but do believe I've settled on the 'scabbard'/Bruce Nelson design as my favorite. That's what I carry all my autos in and do like the lesser expanse of leather on my belt.

Believe I'll enjoy the search for that to replace the Bianchi and DeSantis soon, as cooler weather approaches.
Carry gear is a very personal choice, and I've been carrying longer than I'd even wanna think about.
Good luck in your search.

An ex-Aussie should have an import stamp on it.

There is no import marking on these Australian Police S&W revolvers.
Because they were traded back to the manufacturer.

I have draws full of holsters I never use, you will NEVER find a Tucker Gunleather in those draws. Not only are they beautiful to look at, they are extremely functional and allow for every kind of adjustment. Go with Tucker, you won't be sorry.

those are cool.

I have been Victoria PD for 28 years. I was IA for 5 years. It is funny that probably around 4-5 times in that time frame, I would either get a voice mail or email wanting to file a complaint and when you listen to the locations.....it is not plain ol' Victoria Tx but Victoria British Columbia, Canada. Some of those allegations were outrageous and I said to myself.....glad it was not me doing that investigation.

Those are some cool revolvers. Does it say Victoria on them anywhere?

what revision are they.

thanks for the images. I am waiting for the UPS driver to show up to take delivery. Hurry up!!!!!

Default HERE IT IS!!!!!!!

very happy with this purchase. I have $500 into it.

appears to have been hardly shot, trigger press needs some smoothing but good lock up on all 6 and love the feel of the grips (waiting on a BK grip adapter). I like it.

The images have a lot of smudges but the blueing is clean. Hardly a turn line on the cylinder. Now I need a stainless duplicate... HA!

I don't have my book, can anyone tell me the approx date of manufacture....

thanks in advance

The micro barcode labels bear the initials VPA - Victoria Police Armoury.
3" is a -5, 5 inch is a -11.

thanks for the info.

couple of issues with my 10-8....not worried.

the cylinder makes contact with the barrel. Has peened the barrel edge.

I started to take apart to clean. Some rust inside the action. Not really worried about that. The action shows hardly any wear.....must have been in someones sock drawer.

However the strain screw turns 1 turn and comes to an abrupt stop. going to run some oil and see if that helps.

I think it looks great, $500 is a good price for a 3" K-Frame even if it needs minor work. The barrel/cylinder contact might be the result of a burr on the cylinder, possibly from a previous owner slamming it closed. That combined with the rust is an indication it was likely not well cared for.... but nothing that can't be fixed.

here is the link to my issue

K frame barrel and cylinder contact

I tore the revolver down. I don't have my cylinder tool, so that will happen later. I am confident this revolver was shot a few times and it sat. the internals (mainly the top of the trigger) has some surface rust on the color case hardened steel. It rubbed off easily with a q-tip.

the reciever insides show hardly a trace of wear. still clean and blue but bone dry. this is odd, the strain screw was a bitch to turn. a little WD40 helped....the threads seem off a touch but no chance of it backing out.

a touch of rust under the cylinder thumb piece and discoloring under the left side grip only but overall in great bone stock shape.

the yoke screw is not even fitted. it was loose and if I tighten it, the yoke stops short of full open.

this lil dude may take a ride to either Frank Glenn or Nelson Ford for the barrel and cylinder gap issue and maybe some smoothing of the action.

I want to shoot it!!!!
