S&W 64-4 2" - Value
Not many of these around. Looks to be in great shape. Barely a turn line, solid lock-up, goodyears, H&T appear to be case hardened. No box or paperwork. Guy is asking $500. I'm thinking closer to $400.

Those are getting harder to find, $400 would be a great deal.
Are you sure that's case hardening? Looks more like dirt/grease to me.

So $500 isn't off base at all then?

I would be a buyer at $500, if it was that or lose out. Absolutely would not let $50, or even $100 stop me, unless that $100 took me to $600.

Here's my track on the model:
Smith & Wesson 64 2 in Barrel. Revolver in .38 Spl. Blue Book of Gun Values (38th Edition) indicates between $275 in 95% condition and $515 in 100% condition for this gun. I have 40 recorded prices for this model gun from $300 to $824 over a period of 8 Yrs 1 Mos ending April 29, 2017. The average price as of that date was $462. No refurbs, no refinishes, regular sights. All represented as 95% or better. No distinction for engineering revision, if any, no special editions, no distinctions for box, papers, tools. Current or last MSRP is $689. The last 10 prices I have for this model since 12/8/2013 range from $384 to $824 averaging $537

Only my opinion. $500 is ok, but $450 would be fair for buyer and seller.
As has been stated. If you want the gun $50 more shouldn't be a deal breaker.
Let us know how it goes.

My Model 64-2
I picked this Model 64-2 up about a month ago. It has a slight bit of rash on the top left side of the frame... was apparently dropped on a rough surface at some time in the past. Otherwise, it's in great condition. I paid $500.00 for it.

By the way, the hammer and trigger on the 64-2 are flash chromed, so what appears to be case hardened finish in the OP's photo is either dirt or corrosion.

Close to 400 would be a good buy, but I'd go 500 if I needed another, which I don't.
Pick it up, you won't be sorry.

Thanks. This is a 64-4. Does the H&T info still apply?

I have a -4 and a -5 NY-1, both are snub, as well as my longer barreled M 64 guns have the same H&T as yours.

I had a 2" listed here several years ago for $500 FTF. A forum member offered $600+ shipping for it. We agreed on $500+ shipping. It had no box or "extras." Joe

I have a 64-4 Brinks model DAO Bobbed hammer that I paid $300 for 4 years ago at J&G. So $400 would seem a better price, but if its nice and you want it pay what he's asking.

Brought it home this afternoon. Took it apart, cleaned, and lubed it up. While I was doing that I tried to clean them up, not much came off. Will try a little mineral spirits or brake cleaner tomorrow to see if I get any better results.

How much should I be concerned with the floating hand? This is the only revolver I have that has it.

They are very nice guns. I picked up mine a little over a year ago for $400. The condition of the one your looking at seems to be similar if that's any help.
I carried mine for about 6 months until I came across a 640-1 and decided to make a change. The 64-2 carried easily in a Simply Rugged pancake holster or in a Mika pocket holster in my cargo pants. You do need a good gun belt though! LOL!

I am cheap, and I would do it! Of course would try for less. I have a 10-5, 2" R.B. and love the way it shoots. Bob

I like a really good deal just as much as anyone else. But I also know that a 2 inch model 64 is a very desirable commodity and $450 or $500 is not out of line. I have 2 inch 64-2. I stored the S&W magnas in the box and put on Ahrends Retro Combats that work great for me.

Gun looks new, trigger is awesome for a DAO. Hammer is factory bobbed.
