Thoughts on Model 10-10 after market engraving
Ok so I came across this locally and though it is a model 10, I like the engraving.......am I nuts or worth pursuing? I would probably have the the trigger and hammer color case hardened and the ejector rod simply nickeled. The asking price is 900 dollars. I am trying to verify the engraver and get some detailed pictures.

I agree with your changes, and add some nice custom wood. My question would be with the changes, how much would you have invested in this revolver. It is a model 10-10. If you want it, get it, the price seems reasonable. Sooner or later you or your heirs may decide to move it down the road. I try to keep this in mind when I purchase a collectible.

I like it and I'm usually just a blue steel and wood guy. Would leave it like it is for me.

That is some beautiful work done there!! I agree 100% about your proposed changes that would make it perfect. I do not have any engraved guns yet but if I did I would have to shoot them at least once.

That looks to be very high quality work. Just imagine what it would cost now to get this done plus the initial cost of the revolver! IMO: Go for it. However: I should add that I personally like it as is.

I appreciate the feedback. The seller says the work was recent but still needs to identify the engraver. I agree that the stocks need to be changed to a nice set of wood. I am going to go see the gun and decide. I am not sure what it would cost to case harden the trigger and hammer and nickel the ejector rod, but I suspect. I would be into the gun close to 1300-1400. I would not be into it for investment but just to have an engraved one in my pile......

While I don't own any engraved guns, I do appreciate the craftsmanship and the artistry. Your potential acquisition is stunningly beautiful. The gold accents and intimation pearl stocks are a matter of taste. They are eye catching and kind of add to the overall look. I might start with some smooth presentation magnas in the wood & finish of your choice or some
elk. There several forum members that do great work in both. That change will tone down the look and might lesson the distraction of the gold. If it don't work then you continue. A hand tooled holster is a must. Then go find that BBQ to which JAREDSHS referred. good luck, hardcase60

I usually appreciate craftsmanship like this, but with the gold and pearls, this looks too much like a Llama to suit me. But hey, that's just me.

I would get a new nickel ejector rod and replace the hammer and trigger with case hardened parts. Replating parts is going to be expensive, time consuming and not worth the bother. IMO - gold plating on guns just looks tacky...

"Scratched up" guns are not my thing, but that revolver (minus the gold) would be one that I'd consider buying.

Well the seller went dark on me.......just can't get them to respond. I made the decision that I would buy the gun, but you know how it goes, just when you decide to make the deal folks back out or just don't respond....oh well, it would have been cool.
