Default 63-3 Lew Horton

I recently purchased a model 63-3 2". The end label on the original box says "Horton Spec." but the SC of Smith & Wesson 3rd edition states that the Lew Horton's were 63-2. Product code is 102405 which is correct for the Lew Horton's. Any ideas?

What's the s/n and Spec. Ord. number? Does the gun have any unusual features?

63-3, 2-inch:

I once had 2 of those and now down to one.

The first one I ordered when I had a FFL. The 2nd one I acquired from a collector unfired and I passed it on in same condition when needing money for my current house. I kept the one I ordered.

Seems like they may have been a RSR special edition............ or somebody's special edition????.

*(Don't hold me to this as I have swallowed way too much river water from falling in while fly fishing for almost 7 decades).

Someone enlighten me if I am wrong............. but I have had a couple of RSR guns go through my hands over the years including a NIB 60-1 w/ adj. rear sight and 2 inch barrel.

Y'all take care, Bo

Just checked box of the one I still have:

Serial: CBR99xx

Product Code: 104000

Spec. Ord.: 7038

To satisfy my own curiosity (and failing memory), was this an RSR offering, Horton, or..........????

Thanks from the land of Moonshine and Many Copperheads.

Bo

I received a factory letter from Lew Horton today stating my 63-3 is indeed one of the 500 Lew Horton 63 snubbies. It was received at Lew Horton's July 1989 from Smith & Wesson. So I guess not all the 63 Lew Horton's were 63-2's.

The model 60s with adjustable sights, #102405, were made for Ashland Shooters Supply, Ashland , Ohio!

The product code #104000 guns were made as standard production. The new product flier I have states "special production run of 1000. Available in March of 1991".

We know some 102405's have been lettered by Lew Horton. They say they sold 500. With study, it may be possible to differentiate a LH from a Ashland base on ship dates and s/n prefixes.

You may have a long wait...it appears Ashland went out of business sometime in the 1990s. The company that owned the name has been inactive for 12 years...

Is there a serial number range for these. I see both 63-2 & 63-3 were Lew Hortons...

You may be out of luck, Lew Horton also went out of business and S & W may not know. Perhaps a Forum member has a Lew Horton letter on one of these?
