new shoes on my 500 mag
I'm a sucker for wood grips. Makes the gun look a lot better in my opinion, although rubber is much more practical. I'll leave these on for the low recoil rounds, but of course I'll switch back to rubber Hogue grips for the heavier rounds! Thanks for lookin!

They look nice but you may break them if you forget and fire a full house round, thinking someone on this forum had that happen.

I only plan to shoot the reduced recoil 325 grain bullets with the walnut grips. The 440 and 700 grain bullets will be with the Hogue rubber grips. I will pay close attention so I don't ruin my new grips or my hand. Hopefully they can stand the low recoil rounds. They don't seem to have much if any difference than a hot 44 mag.

Beautiful grips. I mainly shoot 350 grains anayways, from my 6.5" 500. I have been tempted to switch from rubber but it's not a carry gun anyways.

Well, those definitely look better than "Goodyears."

That would be me. I put a set of wood Hogue monogrips on my 500 and they lasted 3 rounds with low recoil 335 gr rounds. The recoil was manageable in hand but the wood split. Save your Altamonts for picture taking and put the goodyears on for shooting.

Very nice but yah, they break under full load. Broke my L-frame grips and my Hogue Big Butt. Look great but wouldn't use em. If you want something other than rubber that you can actually use try VZ L-frame Grips in G10. Might hurt a little though.

I've seen where Nill grips have been used on X frames. You may want to check them out if you're determined to shoot with wood stocks.

Looks great! Although I understand the reasons to sometimes have rubber grips on a revolver, I just hate the looks of it. Revolvers are meant for wood grips, IMO.

What a bummer. I was hoping at least I could shoot reduced recoil loads. I guess I'll leave the rubbers on when I go to the range. Thanks for the heads up!

I like to use a quality pair of snug fitting, thick leather gloves when shooting Magnum revolvers. It makes for a more pleasurable range trip. YMMV...

I'm picking up my 500 tomorrow! I agree with rubber for shooting and wood for the looks! If I may ask, who makes those grips and where can I get a pair? Thanks in advance!

gungripsupply.com These were the first grips I bought from them. They have a decent selection and are nice people. I'll be buying from them again in the future.

The grips do look nice, hope they work for you.
I've had two different wooden grips, neither worked for me. I had a set of Hogue's laminated grips with a flared bottom. They were great, let the gun roll upward like a SA revolver but the recoil broke them. Last I heard, Hogue won't sell them for that very reason.
I also had a set of Herrett's Troopers. Don't know how they held up but they were painful to shoot with moderate heavy loads. Sold them to a forum member who was told why I sold them but he liked them. Don
