Advice on pending trade
Hello, just had a question about a possible trade. I have a century arms polish under folder that has been sitting in my safe for a while. There is a guy that is interested in trading a 66-2 for it. I have less than 500 into my AK. Would this be a good trade for me?

I wouldn't take 10 of your Polish folder whatever they are for my 66-2.

Lol making me feel better. He said it was a cop gun. Carried a lot and shot a little. Pictures look clean and he said the timing is good. If he agrees I'll give it a once over to double check.

It's a 4" barrel.

If you are like me and have enough snub guns I'd run to make that trade.

Sounds like both guns are about equal value so depends on how bad you're wanting a 4-inch 66.
If the 66 were a snubbie .... YES .... without a doubt.

You will be ahead on this trade and will only get farther ahead as time goes on.

I was hoping to trade for a snub because I would like a new carry gun. But I may just end up buying a new 66 with the 2.75" barrel later on.
I don't have an old school type smith yet. I have a 686-6 and a governor. My daughter is almost 13 and likes shooting both, however, I was thinking this would make a good shooter for her to really master and for my son to learn on when he gets older.

th3gruu, you just answered your own question when you mentioned the kids! That 66-2 (perhaps with a pickup set of the common, smaller Magna-type grips) and some mild target level 38 Spl loads will be great for the kids to learn on. I would probably have done the deal already if its condition checked out.

Well just waiting to hear back from the guy. He said he had to sleep on it, so fingers are crossed.

I think the guy will come to his senses and realize that he would be getting the short end of the deal......not that I hope the deal does not go through but realistically you would be getting the better of the deal if the gun is basically in decent shape.

Good deal if he wakes up in the mood to do it!
Toss in a few rounds of 7.62X39 to sweeten the deal......

Value wise for a police used 66-2 and a Polish underfolder would be about the same. It's going to come down to how used the 66 is and how much of actual Polish parts Century used. Century is known to cut corners and coats. The only reason it may be called "Polish" is because Century used a Polish front trunion (where the barrel goes). Everything else could be built here by 3rd party outsourced vendors with in the cheapest possible way. Kinda like calling a revolver a S&W because it has a S&W made cylinder

I would jump on that with both feet. Model 66 with a 4 inch barrel is a darn near ideal revolver. Police revolvers were carried a lot but used little and generaly taken care of. My model 64 trade in is the finest shooting gun I own. Stainless steel never gets the finish worn off, a little polishing and it's good to go . Look it over for any serious problems , then do it.
