Default 642 PC moon clip troubles...Solved! Thanks

I didn't want to step on another 642 thread anymore so I started this one.
I'm new to moon clips, was having trouble with the loading and unloading the empties, but I think I have a home brewed solution or two.
My bigger problem is that they are not loading into the gun freely. They'll go down to about the last 1/4 to 1/2" and start sticking. It requires some pushing to get them to seat fully.
I checked and cleaned the chambers. Single rounds drop freely into each cylinder.
These are the clips that came with the gun ( used ) and are marked; TK-S&W J5- .025- .38- .357.
I'm disappointed since it was a main factor for getting this particular gun. Only 5 shots so a fast reload is nice to have.
Any ideas? ....thanks
PS- the first pic is where they start to hang up, the second is after applying too much thumb pressure.

According to TK's website, those clips will not work with Hornady brass. Those clips will work with Federal, Starline, Remington and most others. Check his website for clips that will work with Hornady. Separating brass and sticking with a single headstamp is just a fact of life for a lot of moon clip guns, more so for those chambered for rimmed cartridges.

Adios,

Pizza Bob

You need moon clips sized for Hornady cases.

Jesse The moon clips load easy on mine and I just use my fingers to remove the fired cases . The only loads I've used for the clips was Buffalo Bore 158 GR LSWC you have to start them out and wiggle them then they seat all the way into the cylinder. I thought the clips would be faster but it dose not seem to work that way. Also I'm not sure if the clips are strong enough to be just put into a pocket with out getting bent. I think for now I'll just use a speed strip.

Thanks guys!
I checked their web site and did not see the Hornady's listed. I must have missed it or else saw it on a different site.
Now, if I can get these unloaded, I'll try a different brand.
Thanks again! I'll let you know how it works out.
Well, wouldn't you know it. I have nothing that works! It's mostly for the other clip which is the Hornady, Gold Dots, etc.
I have some Mag Tech that doesn't work either. I ordered some of the others but am getting concerned since the MagTechs loaded into the clip much easier, but hung up just like the others in the chambers.

Jessie,

If you are close to Roanoke, I would be glad to meet with you and we can try your clips in my 640 Pro and my clips in your 642. That will determine if your problem is with the revolver or the moon clip. The loaded clips on mine drop in and out free and yours should also.

Thanks Bastogne! If I was closer, I would. I already ordered some from TK so I should know soon.

Jessie- look at Revolver supply company- good folk there who have essentially 3 thicknesses on moon clips for 38/357 brass. Call or email them & they can advise what thickness will work for most common brass.

I use their moon clips for my 627 and couldn't be happier for the price point.

I recieved my TKCustom moon clips made for Hornady and Speer, etc.
I'm happy to say that using those, they now drop freely into the chambers and after getting a box of Remington HTPs today, they also drop easily into the chambers using the old moon clips.
They are not as free falling as the Hornadys but nearly so.
Thanks everyone for the tips! Once again the S&W forum has solved a problem!
