New to me 686
A very good friend of mine retired recently. He's been my mentor through my career and we worked side-by-side as our department's firearms instructors since 2000.
He decided to sell off firearms that have sat unloved in his safe and gave me first dibs to buy several of them.
This no dash 686 was my first pick. No M stamp, with a worn pair of Pachmayrs and a smooth trigger, it was his first duty gun and his main competition wheelgun. He's been a Smith armorer for almost three decades and the action is smooth as silk.
Its condition and inner workings were enough to buy it, but the fact it came from a good friend made it a must-have.

Yes! Picked up a 645 with 7 mags. I'll post pics of it in the Autos section soon. He's also holding a 39-2 for me till I have the funds. I've shot the 39 off and on over the years.
He promised and sold a sweet 908 to a woman he knows who needs a SD gun. She shot it better than a Glock 19 and several other semi autos.

I carried a department issued 686 back in the early 80's. When I retired for whatever reason I did not take my 686 with me. A few weeks ago I found one of our issued 686's. A retired 89 year old LEO had it and asked me if I wanted to buy it. He didn't know where he got it. I recognized a rack number electric penciled in the crane as being one of our old duty weapons. I found out that the gun was issued to one of my good friends who died several years ago. To say I'm happy to have this 686 would be an understatement. It is now officially an heirloom gun.

That's fantastic Charlie! Half of the enjoyment of collecting is the emotional response or memories we have from the firearms.

Very nice! I especially like those grips you got on it the first pic. Just a touch of elegance yet very functional.

IT is special to have a firearm that belonged to a good friend and mentor as every time you pick it up, you will think of him.

These are the stories I like to see. A transaction between friends that has meaning.
Congrats on a great gun.

Beautiful gun. I'm in the era of plastic duty weapons but I believe I will do what I can to hold on to mine. Maybe the Glock will one day be the Model 10 of my era
