Default 25-5 ID

I just got a 25-5 that has a pinned front Patridge instead of a
RR. When I traded for gun I assumed that a gun smith milled
of RR and cut for blade. Upon close inspection it appears to me
that this was factory. I can't find this in the S&W book. Could
this be a special for some distributor or organization. The sight
was really why I got gun, I hate RR.

The original RR may have been pinned from the factory, so all that would have been required was to drive out the pin, pull out the blade, install the blank (undrilled tang) Patridge blade in the original slot, drill (from each side) and re-pin.

Adios,

Pizza Bob

S&W will sell you a OEM Patridge blade for only a few bucks. Installs as Pizza Bob says. IMO it's a worthwhile upgrade.

It may have been a special order but only a letter of authenticity 'may' tell you; it may just document "Target sights". Usually I advocate letters in this kind of situation, but if you are happy with the gun and how the sight was installed I probably wouldn't in this instance. Enjoy!

I am totally aware of switching out front sight blades. The few
that I have managed to get were off forum. The sight pins are
readily available from several sources, every one is BO on sight
blades for a long time. I can't find note of 25-5 that has pinned
front sight. I have got ahold of some Simmons tool steel that is
18"X 2" and have one sight. I am looking for some one with a
CNC laser outfit to cut a few hundred of them out. The last one
I bought was $25.
