I have a S&W Model 27-2 4 inch revolver. The bluing looks great. The grips have a some scratches on them and for some reason the person that had it before me widened the rear sight width. I've had the gun for about 10 years. What is the going price for a 27-2. I know the 3.5 inch is more rare, but I thought these had a pretty good following. Thank you all in advance.

Actually, I think the 4" is more rare than the 3.5", but the short guys demand more money in most instances. $800-$850 is a good guess if better than 95%, as you mentioned scratches and sights. Boxes and such add to the price to a certain point. Mint in box can bring under certain situations more than $1200, but not from me.

I think the 4" barrel just might command a higher price then a 3.5". wasn't the 4'' special order only ?

The 4" was a standard factory length toward the end of the -2 series and carried over into the -3.
As always, prices can vary depending on condition and extras (box, docs, tools). A nickel 4" -2 could likely be more due to number produced as I don't recall seeing one in 4", but that's not to say they don't exist.
I'm not an expert and just my opinion but guessing yours in the $700-$900 range. At least that's where I'd want to be in one like yours at.

Pics of your gun would be very helpful for us to give you a fair guess on what it would sell for. Also, specify whether you have the box and tools that the pistol was sold in when new, as that also adds to the value of the gun.

And the guys above are right about them being more scarce than the 3 1/2" barrel. The 4" -2 model was only made from 1979 to 1981 after S&W discontinued the 3 1/2 and 5" models.

As to the rear sight blade, you can replace that with a new sight blade easily and cheaply. S&W has them, as well as Brownells and Midway.

As to value, one in very good condition and has the box/tools would easily sell for over $1000 on Gunbroker.
