Default New S&W 642 with Laser Grips

Sunday I broke down and bought a 642 with Crimson Laser grips.

No picture, I got an error saying the file was missing a security token. Anybody know what that is?

I felt my 637 was the right model for me. I thought I needed the ability to make SA shots if necessary, and my 637 never snagged in my jeans pocket.

I got ready to take my dog for a walk Sunday morning, and slipped the 637 into the pocket For some reason, I took it back out, and the hammer snagged. Whoops !!!

Then I tried my Kimber K6S. No snagging, but the extra weight made my gym shorts sag down.

I went to Academy for some ammo, and saw the 642 with laser grips. I told it not to follow me, but you know how that is.

I seem to shoot it better than the 637, which I have some trouble shooting well. It's getting a trigger job right now, hope it shoots as well as the 642 when I get it back.

The 642 is also more accurate beyond 5 yards, probably due to the laser. There was no learning curve, it functions pretty much like the 637.

Congratulations on your purchase - there is a reason why the Model 642 and its blued counterpart Model 442 have been best sellers for S&W for years. You will also find that the trigger pull is better on the Model 642 than on comparable J-frames with exposed hammers. Both my daughter and wife prefer the Centennial design over any other J-framed revolver with an exposed hammer. You didn't mention what kind of laser grips are on your Model 642, but I really like the Crimson Trace LG-405 laser grips for my air weight revolvers.

Good luck,

Dave

They are the Crimson Trace LG-305, same as I put on my S&W 60. You are the first I know of that said the 642/442 have better triggers than the models with a hammer.

You made a perfect choice for a light pocket gun.

Think I am a believer in lasergrips as an alternative aiming device?

I also have a 642CT. I love everything about this gun, but I rarely shoot with the laser on, I want to be proficient in case the battery is dead or whatever. My wife loves the laser option, she can practice trigger control and see any movement from jerking the trigger instead of squeezing. Enjoy your new carry gun mine either rides in my front pocket, or on my ankle, or in a belly band holster.

I just reviewed my initial input. When I said there was no "learning curve", that wasn't totally correct.

You see, I'm left handed. When I used my normal grip, my weak hand thumb blocked the laser dot. I had to experiment to find a new grip that didn't block the laser.
