My first S&W: A 686 No Dash
My first Smith was this 686 no dash w/o M stamp purchased in 2001 for $350. I had a yearning for a 686, really a 6", from about the time I was 10 after seeing a full color print ad in the 1988 Guns Digest. I turned 21 in the Spring of 2001, and finally got to scratch the it I had for 11 years. This was not only my first Smith, but my first handgun.
About a year later I graduated college and worked part time at Bob's Gun Exchange in Darien, CT. While working behind the counter I saw several estate firearms come in for store purchase or consignment. This 686-4 Plus was one of them. It had no drag line on the cylinder. It felt great in my hand. I resisted it for a couple weeks, and I'm today shocked and thankful it remained unsold long enough for me to justify its purchase. I was pretty much broke at the time, and kept telling myself "You already have one, it's irresponsible to shell out $375 for a duplicate." Then another part of me kept saying "You know you want it, you only live once. It's not a duplicate. It hold seven rounds, the other one only holds 6." Two weeks and $375 later, I took it home with me. That was at least a full weeks pay at the time, and I am glad I did it. This was the inception of my S&W collecting/accumulation habit. Today it has spiraled out of control completely filling a couple large safes 
I can't believe I have been a member of this sight for almost ten years and never shared these before...

Nice 686!
The 4" 686 no dash was my first duty gun; I still regret selling it. The only 686 no dash I still own is this 2.5", it's also been back to the mothership for the firing pin bushing update.

My 1st L frame was a 586, 4" no dash. It was followed by a 686-3, 6", followed by a 686-6, 5" Pro Series in March. Still wouldn't mind a 2.5" Bob

A 686 no dash was my first serious revolver. Like a idiot, I traded it back then before I knew any better. Those were the days I had to trade to get another. I also did it with a Python and Anaconda. Now I never sell anything.
