I've got a 1965 Model 60 (stainless .38 spl). What kind of ammo should I limit it to? I'm assuming NO +P - correct? +P ammo wasn't around when these J-Frames were introduced.

+P is fine in any model numbered gun. For that matter, it's ok in many non model numbered guns, K frame and bigger.

+P in a model-numbered steel J-frame should be ok. If you want to be cautious, though, you could always run enough of whatever +P defensive ammo you're interested in (I'm assuming the reason for +P is for self defense ammo...apologies if I'm incorrect) to make sure it's reliable and you can shoot it well, then use standard pressure loads for the rest of your range sessions. Maybe shoot a cylinder-full or two of +P every once in a while to maintain familiarity.

There's also nothing wrong with sticking with standard pressure ammo if that's your preference.

Plus P wasn't around then, but there was also no real standard for .38 Special at the time. Some factory loads were what would now be Plus P rated (15 to 20% hotter than what is now normal). Even now some European loads that aren't marked Plus P seem significantly hotter than the some domestic loads.

Buffalo Bore makes some standard pressure loads that perform very well in .38 snubs like the Model 60.
