Default Pachmayr American Legend Grips

Hello all, you'll laugh but trying to figure out how to install Pachmayr AL grips on my S&W 638 (j-frame)...no instructions or directions, I'm assuming they come apart into a "V-shape" but these don;t want to do that (and I'm afraid to force it). Any info would be appreciated, thanks.

Hmmmmm. You should be able to slide them on fron the bottom up.
Lemme ask, as stupid as this sounds, but you DID take out the screw first, didn't you?????

Is it possible they're just laminated closed?

A photo might help.

They don't look like I could slide them up unless I remove the stock pin, though I haven't tried that yet. There is a screw connecting the two pieces, but unless I peel away the rubber panels I don't see how to unscrew it. (Can I just peel and replace the panels?)

The rubber panels do come out and I believe there is another screw under the panel that will allow the grip halves to separate. GB (if you already read the first answer that I deleted, sorry about that. This one will fit you situation better.. )

Hmm ... so just to be sure, I peel away the rubber grip from the wood part and should see a screw, then just slap the rubber part back on after the install? (Or re-glue it?)

The rubber inserts should be held in place by the two small screws(one on each side) in the rubber insert. Remove the screws/ the rubber insert should peel out. Screw that holds the grip together should then be exposed. HTH

I have the same issue. I have a 60 Pro. Whatever's in the rubber doesn't look like screws.

Default No Instructions Makes Your Creative Mind Google

I had the same problem...screws wouldn't come out...

The problem is the answer..loosen the screws on the rubber until the tension releases (those screws don't come all the way out)..then pull back the rubber.

Unscrew the inside screw completely and the grips half.
