Default Trading 640-1 fairly?

Is it reasonable to seek a trade where a 640-1 in excellent condition with box and papers is wanted to be traded for a Model 60 three-inch barrel in comparable condition? Whether or not the 60 has the lock is irrelevant.

For me personally, in today's market, if the revolvers are in comparable condtion and fully functional, gun for gun values are not a lot different. Depends on which a person likes the best! Again, for me, my 640-1 is my all time favorite J frame. I much prefer the Centennial style over the guns with exposed hammers. I know there are lots of folks who feel differently. Mine is an EDC gun, and I really can find no fault with it. Nothing at all wrong with the Model 60 3" either, but my choice between the two is the Model 640-1.

What I'm saying is that I would not trade my 640-1 for the Model 60 (any dash). I would trade my model 60 (any dash) for the 640-1 and feel I got the best end of the deal, if both guns were in comparable condition. I would pay more for the 640-1 over the Model 60 if I were buying either one, because I personally like the 640-1 much the best. The Model 640-1 is not being made any longer. And I prefer the older revolver!

It depends on your definition of "reasonable" and for what reasons. They are comparable guns so from a functional standpoint, why not? But there are 3" model 60s and there are 3" model 60s, some of which will bring 2-3 times the price of an average 640-1. And if you have model 60 (or 640-1) fever, all bets are off . Good luck in your decision.

Owning 2 Md 640-1's and a Md 60-10 3", I can tell you that for me I would not consider trading my 3" 60-10 for a 640-1.

But if someone wanted to trade me a 3" 60-10 for 1 of my 640-1's, I'd make that trade in a heart beat, but I guess that's just me.

Good luck in whatever you decided to do.

^^^^what he said. The 60 with exposed hammer is more of a holster gun while the concealed hammer 640, although heavy, can be carried pocketed. I would just buy another gun, but if that is not an option, your 640 IMO is more useful. YMMV.
