I Just Picked Up a New Lady! (UPDATED: Range Visit Pics!)
(SEE POST #22 BELOW FOR RANGE VISIT PICS)
And ain't she pretty! Model 60 Lady Smith. I have been watching this on Gunbroker for 11 days or whatever. There was no action on it. I picked it up for $404 + $25 shipping. Seemed fair to me.
I would think the Combat grips alone would be worth $125+. Pre-Lock, no MIM parts. It basically looks like new in the pictures. Surprised I was able to snag it so cheap.
Only problem is I'm in South Florida. With Irma rapidly approaching, I figure it will be best to have the seller, who is Ohio, hold the gun until after the storm. SO I amy not see it for a week to 10 days. We will see.

What is the Model Number of the lady?
The combat grips don't appear to be correct and have been severely altered at the top of each half with the left side almost to the medallion.

It is a 60 Lady Smith. The S&W Combat Grips are NOT altered and are correct for the Model 60 Lady Smith of that vintage. There are others for sale on GB as well. Looks exactly the same. Medallion, etc, same deal. Search GB or Google it and you will see those of this vintage look exactly like this one.

Cool gun. It is either a 60-3 or -7, either way you got a great deal.

It's a 60-3. I almost looks new in the pics.
I just noticed it was listed in the Semi-Auto section instead of the Revolver section on GB. Maybe that is why it slipped by unnoticed. It was a 12 day auction.

Congrats on that one. Released in 1989 or so, depending upon your serial number.
I had one but sold it to a friend when I found my blue 36-3. You can probably find the correct tools here on the forum's ads. I found a set for my 36-2 LS 2" that way. It came in the same plastic purple bin, but it has smooth rosewood magnas.
Enjoy yours,
Bob

Would have preferred a Blue (36) one, but this was too good to pass up. Haven't seen a 36 Lady 3" in a while on GB either. I think I would be hard pressed to find one with the box, original grips, and being in excellent condition for $400.

Nice snag. I haven't owned or shot a 3" J-Frame yet.

Nice find and I completely agree with your decision to have the dealer hold the gun until things in Florida stabilize.

Had one. Grips are correct for that vintage. Some people think just because they have not seen something it is wrong. Don't worry, I have friends the same way.

Lady Luck has struck me twice! I picked up a 65 Lady Smith for $330 three years ago. Now this 60 lady for $404.
Anyone know what a 60 Lady normally goes for?

I absolutely agree. My blue one came in the door at $525. I had paid $450 out-the-door for my 60-3 and sold it for $500 so it didn't quite cover the 36, but my friend and I are both happy. Yes, she knew what I had in the 60-3.

Congratulations on the new Lady! I hope you weathered the storm well (as did I). Coincidentally, I also happen to be in SW Florida and currently have my eye on a few old-school J-frames.

I recently bought a Model 60-3 3" and love it. It too is a Lady Smith.
Mine is identical to yours including the combat grips. That is the way the factory shipped and not altered.
The revolver shoots great. Makes me think of it as a Jr. Model 10 in the way it feels in hand.
Enjoy and hope the hurricane did not damage you to much.
Jim

Range Visit
I had a chance to take her out today. I love me some old wadcutters. I had a box of Peter's someone gave me. God knows when they are from. Worked quite nicely!
Below are some 5 round groups I shot today at 10 Yards. Double Action Only of course. It is unlikely I would ever use a defensive revolver in single action, so I never practice that way. Way too easy!

Not yet, but soon – probably just a matter of days. I have my eye on a 60-7 located here in Florida. Gotta love the Sunshine State. With all the retirees here, estate sales and pawn shops can be gold mines.
Note: Oops! Got this question mixed up with the OP's response to me in the preceding post.

Thanks! I'm pretty sure that ammo is older than me! And I'm on the back 9 for sure.

Heavens to Betsy, you shot up a box of old ammo!!?? You probably ruined some collector's day. He'd have probably offered you $10/$15 for that box. See what you missed? Good shooting and lovely gun.

P.S. I would have used up that ammo too!

I just finished up 500 rounds of 3-D Police Ammo Wadcutters. Then moved on to the two boxes of Peter's I had. And that is it for my old ammo!

Don't forget one of the advantages of the revolver is the ability to use single action at range for precise accuracy.
Geoff
Who practices at 25 meters single action..still working with the 638 to hit consistently.

New Model 60-14 Lady Smith for the Wife ...
Just picked this up for the Wife's personal protection. I can't always be with her, so now all I need to do is teach her to shoot it.

OP HERE:
I changed out the factory springs last week on the Model 60 Lady Smith, and made it out to the range this afternoon. I changed the Mainspring (Hammer Spring) to an 8lb Spring (the factory is 8.5lbs), and the Rebound Spring to a 14lb (factory is 18lb). I really like that spring combo on my J Frames. Also did some light sanding, and greased up the internals with some lithium grease. The trigger is nice and smooth and consistent throughout the pull.
I shot some more Groups today. This gun is a JOY to shoot. I'm very happy with the trigger. It's also much softer shooting than my Airweights because of its all steel construction. I found one last box of the crazy old Peter's 147gr Wadcutter ammo someone gave me recently.
5 shot groups. 10 Yards. DA Only Offhand.
