S&W model 19 Snub
Just a thought: do you fellows find the model 19 two and half inch as scarce as the model 66 no dash and -2 and-3. In looking for a 66-2 like I used to have and sold it, I don't see the model 19 in above configurations either. What's your experience?
I have a dash 3 model 19 in nickel and blue, but have had a long time. But in searching for a model 66 snub, I don't ever run across the model 19. Thanks for your replies.

Have not seen many 19/66 snubbies at all in my local shops. About a month ago I ran into 2.5" 19 with a serious rust problem. But otherwise have not been seeing them.

I can't remember the last time I saw a 2.5in Model 19 or 66 in a local shop. I'd say your best bet is Gunbroker.

Not too hard to find at gun shows if you're willing to pay $800+. Last reasonable one I found was a 66-2 2.5 inch for $475 OTD about two years ago. Good luck.

Back in the day, I used to see several in some of the pawn shops I visited. To be honest, most of my used guns have come from these pawn shops I used to frequent. I got many at good deals, and I did quite a lot of trading with them. Now I have settled down with what I have, but would like to add a model 66. But every time I say I'm done, I see just 'one more.' But I have four grandsons that get excited every time I bring another home.
Now as I'm older, I get as much fun out of buying grips, and making some of my own. I will retire in probably a year or two, (I'm 70 now), and then I want to piddle with making grips for myself. Nothing special, just to hobby around. with COPD, I don't have the energy I used to.
I will post some pics one of these days of guns I have come across in pawn shops. Some very nice.

I have been looking for a P&R 2 1/2" model for a few years now. Havent been able to find one at a price that I'll pay. Since I started looking, I have bought 2 2 1/2" model 66s. I carry one, the other is an unfired safe queen.

I happened to snag a 19-2 snubbie at a LGS on consignment. I forget exactly what I paid for it, I think it was around $700. I considered it a very good price, especially in CA. It was in good shape, timed correctly on all six holes and locked up good and tight.

They've been pretty scarce locally (LGSs) for a decade or more....Not to bring politics into the discussion but ......... 2 1/2 and 4 inch 19/66s ( around here you can add Models 10,64,65 and 67s to the list) were more often than not "Cop guns"/ sock drawer guns...... civilian concealed carry was rare IMO in the last half of the last century. In the last 18 years, with Y2K, 911, terrorest incidents and politics those who have them are hanging on to them. There were millions of these guns made and it's like the world just swallowed them up!
I set out to replace a few 19/66s I had in the 80s/90s;........ (that I had traded or sold off for L-frames or autos in the late 80s to mid 90s ) in the early years of the 21st century....... it took me several years to find four ''nice" P&Red guns locally.
To replace the guns I have now would take years (locally) and cost me at least 2-3X as much as I have in the current group.
Good luck in your search

I'm with you bambam, on taking years to replace what you have. I'm not a collector in the true sense of the word, but I have 'collected' many guns over the years just because I liked them. Being a shooter and avid hunter for raccoons, deer, squirrels, rabbits, and anything else legal; I have always had plenty of guns. My Dad and I hunted all our lives, (he's now in heaven), we naturally loved dogs and guns. I have AR's, semi-autos, revolvers, and an Iver Johnson .410 my Dad gave me when I was four. My wife is a better pistol shooter than I am.
I will take my time, and find a nice model 66 snub one of these days at a good price. I was called the other day from one of the local pawn shop that I have purchased from. He had an excellent 66-2 with box, and goodies. The price? 1295.00. I quickly said thanks but no thanks. "Good things come to them that wait." Or at least, that's what I've heard.

I MUST AGREE WITH JOHN. ALL MODELS OF SNUBBIES ARE HARD TO FIND, BOTH AT LGSs, AND GUN SHOWS. NICE ONES ARE QUICKLY SNAPPED UP. THEY CAN BE FOUND ON GUN BROKER, BUT DON'T EXPECT A BARGAIN........
I HAVE PAID MORE THAN I WANTED TO SPEND, ON A FEW OF THE FIREARMS THAT I HAVE PURCHASED ON GB. THE STING OF THE PRICE IS SOON ECLIPSED BY THE ENJOYMENT OF SHOOTING, AND THE PRIDE OF OWNERSHIP, OF A GUN THAT I HAVE SOUGHT FOR A LONG TIME........

Congrats!
When I found this -1 a few years ago, I couldn't find my wallet fast enough - may sound high to some, but I still lived in CA.

Bought my 19-3 snub for $350 a year ago. No box and stuff, but in great shape, no rust, light turn line and it shoots great.

That's part of it. However, with the internet now, anyone can find anything, and usually for a decent price. If not, for a higher price, but it can be found. Just have to have the expertise and patience when buying sight unseen, unless you don't mind paying for what you want.
Like BamBam above, our area of western PA doesn't have a lot of conceal carry type guns, or really any nice vintage revolvers. The locale is more hunting oriented with long guns, not to mention a depressed economy that dates back decades, which equates to a community not purchasing expensive handguns when they weren't needed.
Still, finding a nice snub 19/66 is easy to do with online now. What's an extra couple hundred to get a really nice one or exactly what you want online? Try finding a snub Python for a realistic price. So things could be a lot worse for you S&W guys. I personally wish a snub 19 or 586 would have satisfied me, because paying $900 or even a $1000 for one is still hecka cheap compared to the Colt.

I shop gun stores regularly, and I've seen exactly one M19 snub, which I bought without hesitation for $600. I was at a small town gun show in North Florida recently, and they had approximately 10 vintage revolvers of any kind at the entire show. There were hundreds of plastic guns.
So they are certainly not common.

Here's my track in the model:
Smith & Wesson 19 2-1/2 inch barrel. Revolver in .357 Mag. Blue Book of Gun Values (38th Edition) indicates between $325 in 95% condition and $650 in 100% condition for this gun. I have 140 recorded prices for this model gun from $395 to $1225 over a period of 7 Yrs 5 Mos ending September 1, 2017. The average price as of that date was $629. No refurbs, no refinishes, regular sights. All represented as 95% or better. No distinction for engineering revision, if any, no special editions, no distinctions for box, papers, tools. Current or last MSRP is $457. The last 10 prices I have for this model since 11/23/2016 range from $550 to $1225 averaging $747.

Got this 19-5 from BIL (retired LEO) in a "friends and family" deal.
This and my 66-4 snubby would be the last to go (if it ever comes to that.....)
