Many of you have seen the 65 Lady Smith I picked up a few years ago. I saved it from the rental wall at my local gun store/range. $330 a little TLC and another $170 and Viola!
After taking my Airweight Snubbys out a few weeks back for the first time in a while, and was amazed at how well I was shooting them (see pic below), I really got the itch for a 3" J Frame. Just a nice handy little revolver offering a bit better sight radius and increased velocity. There is a big difference between a 1 7/8" barrel and a 3" barrel when it comes to velocity.
(Shooting my snubby Airweight so well a few weeks ago, made me want a 3" barrel J Frame!)
A couple of weeks ago browsing through revolvers on Gunbroker, I saw this 60 Lady Smith in the hardcase that looked to be in great shape. Long story short I wound up getting it for $404, plus shipping and transfer. I see the J Frame Combat Grips on Ebay for $150! This gun is like new, so are the grips! I think they are ugly and the finger grooves don't work for my hand, but I think I will keep 'em on.
I live in South Florida and I won it the day before Irma hit! I told the seller to hold it until the storm ended and delivery services were back up and running again. I finally got to pick it up Friday eve. Here she is. Looks great with her sister! I will file a range report once I do a little work to the trigger and get to put some rounds downrange.
I will tell you this, back in the 80s and 90s, the Lady Smith versions of their standard models were generally pretty amazing! They have turned out to be some of the best versions of those models in my opinion. I'm pretty sure the 65 Lady Smith is the pinnacle of the model 65.
