will 929 titanium cylinder work in 327?
so let me preface this by saying that I just had TK Custom do some cylinder work for me on my 327 to shoot 9mm... so with my current cylinder, I have an 8-shot 327 that can shoot 357/38 with or without moonclips and can shoot 9mm with moonclips (for 9mm, moonclips are absolutely needed with this setup).
they did a great job and I am very happy... but...
I got to wondering (since the 929 cylinder can shoot 9mm with AND without moonclips), can you just get a 929 cylinder and will it drop in/ work in the 327? both are 8shot.
If so, maybe I shouldve just bought a spare 929 cylinder, but then again I do like the idea of being able to shoot 3 calibers out of the same cylinder.

The 929 cannot shoot 9mms without moonclips.
I've tried. Some fire. Some don't.
The 9mm is rimless and needs the clips to headspace correctly.

The 986 will not fire without moonclips. I've tried that recently.
Out of my 327/627s, I shoot 9mm,38 specials and 357s. I use 38 short Colt cases and load 9mm bullets with the same moonclips.

The 929 cylinder is around a 1/4" shorter than the 38/357 cylinder.

I don't know for certain, but I would not be surprised if the 929 cylinder weren't shorter than the 327 cylinder. At least it looks shorter in photos. That, of course, would be a deal breaker.

I wouldn't shoot .38s or .357s out of your converted cylinder. The 9mm case is tapered so your chambers are wider at the base now and the .38/.357 cases will fire form to the new chamber dimensions making them bulge at the base and possibly stick in the chambers with low pressure ammo and split with +p or magnum ammo. I have a 360J that I had converted to 9mm back in 2008 by Pinnacle and Mark recommends against using .38/.357 ammo in his conversions for those reasons. I, of course, tried it and he was correct. I eventually had him fit a titanium .38spl cylinder to it to give me the option of shooting .38s if I wanted.

Dimensionally, I like the short Colts to shoot 9mms in a 38/357 cylinder. The "shorts" are nothing more than shortened 38 specials, almost the length of 9mm. I use starline short colt brass.
The 9mm moonclip(929) is the middle one. Almost indistinguishable from the 9mm in short colt brass. The rest are shorts for the 327/627 8 shot. Ranch products moonclips for the 27s.

I'll echo wc145. While you can shoot 38/357 I wouldn't feed it a steady diet, especially not 357 (due to high pressures). I'm betting you've got something else better suited for those if you want to spend a day mostly shooting magnums.
I too had a cylinder machined, and did the obligatory caliber comparisons after. I had a few stuck (ish) cases and some bulges. Nothing actually split on me but it was enough to make me cautious.

Curious, have you tried shooting 38/357 without clips since the work was done?
