Here I go again - please excuse the ignorance!
I'm trying to get some information on this revolver. It is a model 625-2, but on the barrel is stamped "45 CAL MODEL OF 1988". Does this assign any special attributes to this revolver?
My cousin was flooded in Hurricane Harvey and has asked me to sell a few of his guns. This one is on the block and I can't find out much about it. Any help on its heritage or value would be appreciated.
I'd rate the gun at 85-90% due to some visible holster wear along the barrel and some tiny scratches on the frame and cylinder.

It was the first version of the 625 (stainless .45 ACP) and was replaced by the (you guessed it) "Model of 1989" soon after introduction. There are some detail changes between the two models that someone else here will know.

The Model of 1988 guns were 5" barrels then the 1989 guns went to 4" barrels to be legal for competition. I think the 1989 guns went to Patridge front sights also. That gun would be a keeper for me.

The authors of the SCS&W book edition 3 were also very confused. The initial introduction of the Model 625 was the 625-2; yes the -2 was the initial offering.
From the book the early variations will be found marked both "Model of 1988" and "Model of 1989".
They looked at a Model of 1988 and 1989 side by side and found:
the 88 has a roll stamped barrel marking while the 89 has etched
the 88 has a ramp front sight while the 89 has a Patridge. Beyond that they look identical.
They then asked for inputs from the public. Edition 4 might have better info.
The 625-2 when introduced in 1989 was stamped Model of 1988 and was a .45 acp only. The 625-3 (1990) was a .45 Colt caliber
That was a quick and dirty from Ed 3 of the Standard Catalog

Thank you for the info. Doesn't sound like this gun is anything out of the ordinary. Is this a $500 or $800 revolver?

New 625's are going for about a grand on GunsInternational right now, none for sale on Gunbroker at the present time.
Have you checked this forums gun sale list for any?

In it's present condition, pachmayer grips, no box etc, I'd day closer to the $500 than the $800. You could probably price it at $650, and then come down when you get no offers.

Those Pachmayr's are the original grips. Do you have the box, docs and tools? Slightly more desirable than the models that followed, but not a large premium - I'd say more in the $600 - $700 range - toward the higher end if complete, but I wouldn't sell mine for that.
Adios,
