627PC comparison pictures

Hey,

Does anyone own both the 627 PC (2.6") and a Glock 29? I would like to see some size comparison pictures and since this is an odd request, couldn't find any on google. If you have a 3" 686 that is another one of my considerations. Thanks in advance!!

This is for carry by the way, I already own a shield 9mm PC so i have a smaller option for days when i cant carry the L or N frame. I want something with a little more juice. My thinking is that I can either get just the 627PC, or get the glock 29 AND an airweight J frame for a backup gun for around the same price. I may change my mind again, as i dont plan on buying until early next year.

Here's a comparison using another N Frame, this one has a 2 3/4" barrel.
One pic shows the G29 with a standard mag. Another pic shows it with a G20 mag and an "X-Grip"

Thanks!!! That helps a lot. It seems like if I get a good owb holster the 627 wont be too bad. Any opinion on whether or not the 3" 686 barrel will improve velocity/sight radius enough to be worth losing a round/ not being pc? Also I have not shopped for 357 or 10mm ammo recently, is there a big price difference?

Would much rather have the extra round than worry about a ~100 ft/sec lost in velocity (if that) because of a barrel less than 1/2 inch shorter.

I will add my two cents, having owned all three of your considerations. I carried a Glock 29 Gen 3 for about a year, ended up getting rid of it for a Glock 32. The 29 was a brick, didn't offer any advantages over the 32, so I made the change. A gen 4 29 might be better, but it wasn't out at the time. Last year I bought the 627PC, great gun , a bit top heavy with the included grips but certainly no harder to carry or conceal than the 29 was. I ended up trading the 627 for a 586 L-comp. While the weight was almost identical, about 36.6 vs 36.7 ounces, the L frame felt much better in the hand and carries much better IWB, for me, and I'm a big guy with big hands. I'm not too concerned with the loss of a round, if I was worried about capacity I probably wouldn't be carrying a revolver anyway. As far as ammo, defense ammo is about the same price regardless of caliber, but range ammo in 38/357 is much more abundant and cheaper everywhere I've ever shopped. Hope this helps to some degree.

Thanks! It sure does help! I am not a very big guy 5'8" 185-190 pounds, athletic-ish build, working on that. So I expect finding the best way to carry the revolver to be challenging, but do-able. The price of ammo will probably play a factor, because I like to practice whenever I get the chance. I had 2 shields one after another over a 2 month period (long story, posted about it in this forum) and put about 1600 rounds through them in the first 2 months over about 6 range trips if I remember correctly. That seems like a lot to me, but maybe its not. I don't expect to do that with my next gun, and obviously i haven't shot the shield as frequently as i was then (newness wore off), but I would like to be able to practice and have fun without spending an absolute fortune. I have already found though that I blow through ammo much faster with an auto than i do a revolver, which makes sense I guess.

Why not just a Mod 36 or 37 in a OWB leather holster that holds it close to your body? Throw on a pair of shorts, belt t-shirt and walk out the door? I use either of those, and a beat up old Colt Cobra. If I don't feel like a belt I put one of them in my pocket.
I like the bigger frames too...but I got tired of wearing a t-shirt and then a button up shirt over that to hide the 44 I normally carry!!
Mod 36's around my way are only around $300-$400...used but you are going to carry them anyways!

I would like a j frame, but my shield kind of fills the tshirt role to some extent. The point of this next purchase is to get something i can CC next year with 1. More power, 2. Something i feel more comfortable with in a active shooter situation if there is no way to run away/get my loved ones away, and 3. Hiking and camping gun. (Mostly southeastern US) If i have plenty of extra money, I plan on getting either a 642 airweight or a ruger lcr to go along with it because i do love small revolvers.
