Default Once again, Needing help..629 Ben Shostle Engraved

Hello, Once again I am looking for a value on a 629 revolver and possibly a Luger if theres any Luger guys on a smith sight (theyre in a box set otherwise I wouldn't ask). So, here the full story on the Smith. According to the lady Im possibly purchasing it from, her father bought it from Jim Supica (The NRA Museum Director), for a large unmentioned sum of money. Later today I spoke with Jim over the phone about the gun and the engraver, Ben Shostle. Well, I cannot contact Ben due tot he fact he died roughly a decade ago. So, heres the facts about the gun I have dug up myself. It is a 629-1 with a 6 inch barrel, obviously a 44 mag, the serial number AYZ2134 dates it to Feburary 1988. The grips are real Ivory from India, It's real, No If's and's or but's, I know my ivory( unlike my pistols haha). Grips are INCREDIBLY detailed and 10/10, 100% perfect as well as the rest of the gun. Engraved Busts of Horace Smith and Daniel Wesson appear on the right side plate. Now, I am looking for a RESALE VALUE and APPRAISAL VALUE on this gun (As well as the luger if there are any luger guys out there). Attached below are pictures on my shops facebook page, you may have to scroll a little bit. thank you!

Jim should be able to tell you what it's current fair market value is....especially since he sold it last. A gun like that usually goes up in value rather than down,so the "large unmentioned sum of money" that it was last purchased at would be a good starting point.

The Luger on your "site" is a nice "sight."

Did Shostle also engrave the Luger? The stag grips look nice on it. You should give the Luger data; manufacturer and date. And tell if the plating is nickel, chrome, or silver.

If the engraving didn't remove the manufacturer's name or code or date, I can tell you who the maker was by the code. Of course, if it says DWM, Erfurt, or Mauser, you already know that.

Many here can do that. We aren't all limited by tunnel vision on guns and know only Smiths. It bugs me when someone says he just knows S&W's and some claim to know only about, say, N-framed guns! I think we should have wider horizons.

I'll help if I can, but there are others who know Lugers better than I do. I hope they see this topic. That's an impressive gun.

I saw both those guns many times over the years. Ben Shostle had them at every gun show from the late Eighties until he died. The price was more than $1000+ over the value of the guns before he did his engraving. There wasn't much of a market for engraved guns in Central Indiana then!
