The serial# dates to about 1993.
Looks like a 98% piece. I note screwdriver marks on the screws? Do you have the box for it?

Thanks for the information and timely response!
Unfortunately, no box.
Looking at the gun there doesn't appear to by heavy marks by screw. Are these the original grips that came with it? Blue Book states combat dymondwood grips, but I am not as familiar with that style.

Yes. Smooth rosewood stocks were standard on the early LadySmith version of the Chiefs Special. Personally, I think calling them "combat" is a bit over the top. But I'm sure they are original to your gun.

Yes, I was thinking the same.
Good to know that they are original - I am used to on the older models being able to remove the grips (ever so carefully ) and confirming serial numbers.

Welcome aboard from Wyoming.

That's a nice looking LS. The Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson 4th Edition likely has better information than the Blue Book.

When S&W launched the Model 36 LS in '89 there were two models. The 36-2 was a 2", similar to the 36-7 you're looking at, and the 36-3 was a 3" heavy barrel. They came in purple hard plastic cases. (The company did ship some LS models without the hard case, too.) After '91 the company discontinued the 3" model, and the LS came in a burgundy soft-sided case. The SCSW says the LS grips were "anatomically designed for women," but I believe that only applies to the combat grips on the 3" LS, which are completely different than the standard J-frame combat stocks (shown on Double Action Only '89 Model 36-2s in the third photo).

The first photo shows my '97 Centennial 642-1 LS and two '89 Chiefs Specials mentioned above.

Hope this helps a bit.

Bob
