Default New acquisition: NOS 29-5 6''

I saw a unfired 29-5. Being a huge fan of my 29-2 I thought I get to shoot FMJ and have the strengthening upgrades as well. Could not resist (as this gun habit seems drug resistant anyway) and here she is:

Blue is stunning, quality, fit finish perfect and action cycles super smoothly already although opening the cylinder is still stiff as Hilary. Has the long cylinder stop notches timed perfectly and I think the yoke screw is a lot beefier as well.

Shooting FMJ will not happen. I thought when pins and recesses disappeared, cylinder throats got tightened up to .4295 or so as the 29-5 classic DX underlug have it.

Not on this baby: All throats are sized 0.433, precisely the same as on my 20 years older 29-2. But I love it just the same, I can make one type of hard cast ammo for 2 guns...range report to come maybe tomorrow.
I will feed it 5.3 grains of W231 under a 200 gr hard cast .432 diameter to start with for target plinking.

Any further hand load ideas are welcome as always.

Man, you found you a nice one! The bluing looks great and the grips appear to be in as new condition too. I'm surprised to hear that the cylinder throats are so large. I thought that by the dash 5 configuration that S&W had tightened that up. Musta been the dash 6 guns. Whatever the case, you found one fine gun! And sounds like you already know the remedy for accuracy with the larger boolits. Have fun shooting!
