Just finished a great range session with my new 617. Would really like to install a Hi Viz fibre optic front sight. Anyone know of one that is already drilled for the roll pin?

No, and it probably wouldn't fit exactly. Not that tough with the proper tools; drill both sides.

Take your time with a 1/16 inch drill bit and your can do it.

A gunsmith won't charge too much to install one. It's worth it to have them do it so you don't make a mistake.

I bought one of those sights for my 617-6, bought a couple of #54 drill bits and after about 30 minutes of work, I have a new fiber optic sighted revolver. I'm not a gunsmith. I do tinker with my guns, and normally take them apart before the first use. But that's all of the knowledge it takes to replace the sight. If you are comfortable doing it, go for it. If not, take it to a gunsmith for installation. Take your time, you should be fine. It's a fantastic upgrade for these tired old eyes.

If you do not have a drill press don't attempt this with a hand drill.
The hole needs to be straight and perpendicular to the bore.
A lot of shops will install them for little or nothing if you buy the Hi Viz from them. One shop in my area does this because they did mine.
A Hi Viz will be nice but only if it is not canted.
I discovered the value of the Hi Viz when one came on a 317-3 I purchased as a trail gun. 3 inch barrel , Hi Viz front and adjustable rear sight. The only thing giving me trouble is the shallow vee notched rear sight blade. I can hardly hit a tin can at 15 feet with it. I can shoot, I competed in NRA Bullseye Matches for 10 years and held my own.
I much prefer a u notch , but I'm going to work with the shallow v some more before going back to shop and having a regular square or U notch blade installed...the shop smith said he could get one and installation would be free!

Meanwhile it costs near nothing to brighten up the front sight with a little paint. I use red over white Testors enamel ( $ 1 at walmart). Apply sparingly with a toothpick . Comes out amazingly bright.
