Default Updates on my 627-PC (third time I have sent it back to the factory)

Well my last thread was locked, probably because I said I was over it and will just buy a ruger. I still feel the need to provide updates and follow up info on this horrible process.

It has now been over 6 weeks (Monday marks 7 weeks) since I mailed my 627PC to smith for the THIRD time.

I was told I would get updates along the way, and that the gun will be expedited or elevated AGAIN, even after it was supposedly elevated the 2nd time it was sent in.

I have tried and tried to get info along the way, a few times I was told ‘still waiting.’ Emails went unanswered, phone calls went in returned.

Finally two weeks ago I get an unsolicited email saying that the gun is in finishing and it’s being rebuilt from’the base components’ and that they’d give me a list of what was done when it was finished. I sent a follow up email several days later, then last Friday I was told ‘the gun is finished’ the customer service rep who used to be a revolver fitter told me he went to look at it, finish was great, laser engraving wasn’t too deep or too shallow, timing was good. Is definitely good to go next week’

I replied with a thank you and asked if they could comment on whether or not the forcing cone/rifling cuts my last two barrels had was an issue, and also if he could tell me what was actually done to the gun.

Here we are 6 days later on Thursday afternoon (east coast s&w is now closed) and I haven’t been able to get a response or answer to either of my questions, and I still have not received notification that the gun is shipping back to me.

So, supposedly it’s finished and is good but they can’t give me info on what was done and whether or not they even consider the condition of my barrel to be a problem or not. They’ve had the gun for over 6 weeks.

Just to reiterate, I bought this gun about 14 weeks ago and it has been at smith and Wesson for about 12 of those weeks.

I keep finding myself in a mindset where I’m okay giving the gun and the factory one final chance to be right, then something like this happens where I cannot get any communication and promises of getting it back are not met.

I seriously just want this gun back so I can see what all took 7 weeks and 4 (including the time it was built) stays at the factory. I’m so over it all in that if it’s good fine maybe I will keep it and learn to love it, and if it’s not whatever I’ll pass it on.

14 weeks and I still don’t have a gun that is the way it should have come from the factory the first time. Maybe I’m being too lenient and too patient? Maybe I’m not being patient enough and just need to give them another several weeks or a few more tries to get it right?

I really dunno I’m just in gun limbo right now.

I can tell you if I had either the $1000 that I spent on this gun, or the gun I spent $1000 on, in my hand righ my now, I might feel a bit better because I’d at least have something, but alas, here we are still waiting on a supposedly finished gun.

OOOOOHHHH! you better not shout! you better not pout, you better not cry I'm tellin you why! Santa Claus is coming to TOWN!

just be patient like a big boy! it'll be all right, LOL

I had a 629 Classic Hunter! it came with a rear sight that was canted to the right about 10 degrees... I should have refused it, but I drove 100 miles one way in a January ICE STORM, on the lovely roads of Central Obamastan....so I took it home, I had a 627-0,,, (I had to buy another one), and thought the sight must be bent, or????

Got home, switched sights and the frame was a complete and total mess,,,, about 1993 production??? anyway, I paid to send it in,,,, they messed it up much further attempting to fix it, so replaced the frame, but not the crane...

So it had the "ugliest" "crane to frame fitment" I have EVER seen on a Smith and Wesson??

I paid $475.00 for that sucker in 1994,,, yes it was high, I spent another 150 bucks trading up to a used 29-5 Classic DX,,, the singularly most accurate, most beautiful post 70s Smith I have ever laid eyes on... yep its gone, my buddy traded me a nice Colt Combat Commander and 175 bucks for it???

so be cool, don't get your hopes up,, sounds kinda like my deal, and if its awesome,,,,be thankful, but rebuilds, are very seldom satisfying,,, you want them to roll off the line line they "grew together at birth!

Sounds to me like there's been more than an abundance of patience already.

While I did choose an M&P pistol as my regular belt carry, with two .380 M&Ps for pocket carry (backup & rare carry when the full-sized pistol isn't viable), replacing the Colt 1911, and I intend to stick with those till I check into the nursing home, I won't buy a new Smith revolver.

I know- a common done-to-death theme, but.....

I still own several older Smith revolvers, and those include the scanditanium J I occasionally carry, and the 686 I just had customized for carry in the wilds where the critters are small enough not to need the 629 I carry in bear country.

I & my father are both retired career cops, with two generations of betting our lives on Smiths behind us.
We've both had full confidence in the revolvers we bought with our own money to keep us alive on the job.

I still do bet my life on the brand, just not with any new Smith revolver built in the past 15 years.

The world has changed, and so has the company.
Neither for the better, in my opinion.
