S&W 28-3
I got this in my mail today and am very happy with the condition its in. The picture doesn't really do it justice. Now I need to figure out what wood stocks to put on it. Hope to get to range this week. W

Nice looking gun. I have a 4" M28 and I really like it. If you like to shoot full magnum loads you got the right gun for it.

The Model 28's are great revolvers. I agree, you have to take off those old "goulashes" and put some wood grain on her. She deserves it.

How about some suggestions and pictures on what stocks to put on?
Have to agree those "goulashes" are not the best looking but they do fit my hand pretty good.

More than likely it was furnished with magnas, but with the 6 inch barrels the targets seem to give a better "look", although depending on your hand size, the magnas may be a better fit.
Plenty of each out there for sale. This forum WTS section is a favorite corral for such.
If you will Carrier, your declaration, "got this in my mail today"; needs clarification, (at least for me), do you hold an F F L, or is the gun coming back from some gunsmith work, or....?

Maybe get Mr. Culina to do you a set of "Cokes" in your favorite wood. Like this set in american holly I have on a Model 29-3.

Nice 28. If you're shooting full-boat magnums (which the M28 is ideally suited to do) the Pachmyrs that are on it are far better than any factory wood grips.
Get some pretty wood for display, but for shooting the rubber grips are better.

Tonight I thought I would give it a good cleaning and noticed one of the ejector pins is missing. Checked Brownells and they don't seem to have any. Did a search on here and it seems that a #55 drill bit will work.

Agree 100%. Them little diamonds can be rough on the ol' paws. The service grips just seem to be a bit to small, and the targets get a bit big after a box or two of shells. The rubber grips, IMO are better for full house loads. But everyone needs some nice clothes to be seen in though....

I have two 4" and a 6". All are tack drivers. Them 28's are just a screamin' for stag or elk stocks.

First new revolver I ever bought was a 28-2 in 1980. Tremendous revolver. Simply outstanding. It'll take just about anything you can load up and fire in it ... even stuff that is not in the books! Back when my world was one revolver and lots of imagination about handloads ... and little sense about what was wise ... discovered there were limits even with my 28-2. Live and learn. Now have two 28-2's ... a four inch that I bought in 2011 and a six inch that my identical twin brother (deceased) gave to me about 2000. Beautiful fitted, timed, finished. Both wear S&W target stocks. Both are a pleasure to my eyes! Doubtless you will enjoy many years with your new revolver as you go to the range and as you roam in the woods and fields. Got one in 4'' and all it sees is a 166gr cast+gc that comes out screaming at a little over 1300fps;the thing doesn't kick anymore than my model 13 with .38+P.After a few Ks through it,it is still as tight as when new.
Love the little beast.Hope you'll have as much fun with yours as I do with mine.

My no dash came to me with rubbers on it. Changed to Herrett Target Stocks. It now wears factory S&W target stocks. Enjoy your 28! Bob

I didn't really read your post very well. I'm in Canada and bought it from another in eastern Canada on a buy/sale forum. Great guy by the way.
