Default Larger additions to a small collection

Darn, but S&W revolvers are addicting!

A few new additions joined the family recently, and I thought I'd share some photos in a new post. Previously, I had inquired about barrel length effects in the S&W 500 Magnum, and what's reasonable for a 617 with an 8-3/8" barrel. Well, those are the new additions, and I couldn't be happier with their arrival!

The 500 had some delivery problems; the first one shipped in from the distributor had numerous cosmetic issues - scratches in particular. It shocked both the LGS owner, and me that the factory would ship damaged goods - so, I didn't accept it. A second one was shipped, and that's the one pictured.

The 617 was represented to be unfired, and I was amazed to find out what a truly unfired pistol feels like when first used in perhaps decades... STIFF, CRANKY and downright UNHAPPY to be awakened from its slumber. It was so stiff, I took off the sideplate to see what was happening; I expected to find solidified grease and oil gumming up the works. But it was all sparkly clean, and dry as the Sahara. So, I lubed things up, and gently worked the action to get things moving.

I haven't taken the kids out for a run at the range yet; perhaps this weekend?!

Until then, some pics of the new arrivals are attached.

The pair of snubbies include the new 500, and a 340 for comparison. I have NO doubts that one will be much easier to carry than the other. Heck, (5) rounds of 400 grain 500 S&W Magnum weigh almost as much as the 340 does empty!

A fine trio. I'm looking forward to shooting a 500 soon. Just found a local range that has one available to rent

Thanks! Iím really happy with them all!

Trying out a 500 before you buy is a great idea - itís what got me started. As you know, there are many variables and varieties of platforms and ammo, so you may have to try a few to find the one thatís just right for you.
